I loved the hotel and how medieval it looked on the inside. The garden overlooking the water was absolutely gorgeous. Our room had an amazing view as well and it was very comfortable. I hope to come back some day in the future.

Hotel was perfect in every way. Attention to detail at every turn, super-helpful staff that appears to actually like their jobs, everything spotlessly clean, great restaurant and fabulous breakfast, beautiful view of Danube from large, well-appointed room. I’ve never been so impressed by a hotel anywhere. Can’t wait to return

Beautiful property. Enjoyed the pool, bicycles, and food. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Had to walk up and then down some steps to get to our room, which wasn’t great with a big bag or for my husband’s knees.

The restaurant in the hotel is excellent and is reason in and by itself to stay at the hotel. Big thank you to the chefs and to the sommelier Kevin, who for such a young man was so proficient at his job and affable. Must also mention the breakfast as being generous in its offerings and of high quality. The hotel has a fantastic pool and is perfectly positioned next to the abbey and in the middle of town. Dining at the hotel’s restaurant with a direct elevated view of the Danube and its surroundings was something very special. Our thanks to the hotel owner and staff.

View from our window over the river was outstanding. Breakfast buffet was good as was the dinner we had there one night, Our waitress made it lots of fun. Drinks in the lobby was convenient. We needed a bar fridge to store some medications and staff were able to bring one to the room for us which was very helpful. Lots of restaurants etc closing for the season by Oct 15. Rented bikes from the hotel and worked out well

Unique hotel with an excellent breakfast buffet. The hotel was centrally located in Durnstein which is a wonderful village. The price of this hotel was steep for room we received. Non the less, we were aware of the price and enjoyed our stay.

The hotel is a musty old building surrounded by musty antiques. If you enjoy nostalgia this is your place. If you enjoy crisp and clean accommodations with modern amenities look elsewhere. The staff was excellent.

We loved our 3-night stay in this charming historic hotel! We had a suite perfect for our family of four, a welcome respite after a long flight from the United States. Breakfast was lovely and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Be sure to take advantage of the bike rentals to ride along the path by the river, incredible views! We would love to return one day!

historic hotel in charming Durnstein

We had a wonderful stay in this lovely inn. Our room was spacious and comfortable. I could have stayed in all day to enjoy the view of the Danube. Dinner on the terrace was excellent and featured fresh and seasonal dishes. The breakfast buffet offered excellent variety and quality too.

Hotel is on beautiful grounds. Room was lovely and clean. It was very nice to have a nice outdoor balcony. Durnstein and the Wachau Valley is absolutely stunning. We rented bikes from the hotel for our three days while at the hotel....it was fantastic exploring the area, the bike paths are great! Only complaint is that the rooms do not have air conditioning and the weather was very hot....had to keep the sliding door open and because there was no screen it waa hard to keep flies out.

This was a such a charming hotel in the most charming village. The staff was extremely helpful and kind. (Rooms do not come with refrigerators and they arranged to have one placed in my room for my medication). As it was an old monastery the atmosphere is magical. Be careful you could spend your entire time here at the pool and in the gardens they are so peaceful. The room was perfectly air conditioned even though it was in the upper 90s. We paid for a room with a view of the Danube and the view was perfect. You will be thankful you booked a stay at the Richard Lowenhertz.

If you’re looking for the best place to stay in the Wachau, this is it. Dürnstein is the jewel of the region and this is a beautiful, classy and unique hotel with gorgeous gardens, a nice outdoor pool and views of the Danube. The restaurant is excellent too, and breakfast is wonderful! The staff is helpful in renting bikes, which are the best way to see the valley if you’re able.
