"Hotel and staff were great , food at breakfast and dinner were great , good size portions, although we were charged different prices from what was on the dinner menus , only downside was the reception was at the bar , I think it should be separate , if the bar is busy ( which it was ) as we arrived early Saturday evening you need to wait , but overall everything was great"

"I found it deeply disturbing that some guests were permitted to sit in the foyer, lounge and breakfast room in their pyjamas and moreover, to discover that this practice is acceptable with Mercure St Helens, Merseyside. All of which made our stay an uncomfortable one."

I could not work out how to turn off the radiator overnight so got a bit overheated.

One nice surprise was shared kitchen facilities with a...

"Overall the hotel was comfortable and clean, staff were helpful and the pool was a lovely place to go - the temperature was lovely!
However, the hotel does need a bit of a TLC. Loose pipes in the shower area of the pool.
The rooms would really benefit from a mini fridge and the furnishings and decor is a bit tired. We had a leaky pipe under the sink that would drop water on to the bathroom floor and make it slippery.
The beds were comfortable and the Superior Room had heaps of space with 2...
