Fantastic Traditional yet Up-to-date Spacious Cottage Very Close to Edinburgh
The Garden House is a delightful quirky and traditional one story picture book cottage that has been beautifully refurbished in character to a very high standard. The cottage has its own garden space within the stunning grounds of Oxenfoord Castle and Parks with all its wildlife for plain view. Deer wander round the gardens. Hares and all kinds of birds. Only 12 miles from Edinburgh but in the heart of the countryside it is easily accessible by road, with airport and rail conveniently close. From the outside you may think you are coming to a tiny country cottage as at first view you will only see a door in a brick wall but this is deceptive as once inside the space just opens up seems to go on and on. The front of the cottage had a tradition central door with side windows and roses climing round. Every room is spacious. Three bedrooms and three bathroom/shower rooms - two en-suite. The Kitchen is huge with masses of family space and a large kitchen table. There is a walk through snug television room. A large and spacious sitting room. Pretty passages. It has all the feel and atmosphere of cosy cottage with hotel comfort with the !00% Egyptiion cotton bedlinen on seriously comfy beds. It caters for all needs with up to the mark cloud Wifi; modern well equipped kitchen; 24hr heat and hot water from a biomass seating system. And even a log fire for the winter months. Close to the cultural centre of Edinburgh, it is perfect for the Edinburgh festival and also to hills for those who like walking and also beaches only 15mins away and beyond following the beautiful Scottish coastline of East Lothian. This is a perfect getaway cottage for a family or friends getting together.

This was a wonderful stay. Wonderful, large cottage. Beds and furnishings very high quality. Kitchen a dream. Our four kids loved with the huge property in the back. Very charming. We’d stay again.
We loved our time here. The attention to detail, from the dishes, the sheets, and the thick towels was great. We had fires every night and enjoyed running/walking the grounds (saw quail, sheep, and cows). We did have a bit of trouble finding the house once we turned into the estate in the dark. We highly recommend!
The Garden Cottage is such a fantastic spot. My family was traveling to Scotland for a wedding and needed a nearby accommodation with minimal stairs for the 92 yr old grandmother. The Garden Cottage seemed to be a good choice until we walked in the door and WOW, it exceeded all expectations. Not only were there few stairs and 3 bedrooms, the cottage included a lovely kitchen with a large table, a sitting room, a tv room and a fantastic garden with opportunities to spot a big rabbit or two. The hosts were on hand to greet us and to provide assistance if we had any questions. The Garden Cottage is located on the on the grounds of Oxenfoord Castle (lovely for strolling), about 10-15 minutes to Dalkeith and other small towns, and 20-30 min of the Edinburgh area when traveling by car. We had such a wonderful stay and would like to thank the hosts for all their kindness and hospitality. Well Recommended
Nothing but glowing remarks for our stay in the Garden House at Oxenfoord Castle!
Beautifully appointed.
Very clean.
Every supply you could ever need to prepare meals.
Fantastic mud room with a great space to wash and fold laundry.
Easy access to some of the best coastal golf in East Lothian/Mussleburgh area.
20 minute drive to downtown Edinburgh.
Beautiful grounds with deer, pheasant, rabbits.
Plentiful parking outside the unit.
And above all....VERY accommodating owners. Without diving too deep into the details, we had a miscommunication on our part regarding check-in, but Harriet solved our dilemma immediately and with grace.
This was our first trip to Scotland and we plan top return!
Many thanks for hosting us and our boys as they competed in the European Championship. Your home made our trip so memorable. We look forward to staying with you in the future!

We had a last minute change of plans and I needed to find suitable accommodation for my family of 4. I came across the 'Garden House' in my initial search and compared 5 other similar solutions. None measured up and that was only based on the images. The pictures undersold the property, utterly.
The Garden House became a serendipitous highlight of our trip to Edinburgh. The location, setting, layout, preparation, standards, provisions were are excellent. The setting within Oxenford Castle grounds are beautiful and enchanting. We managed a nice walk around during a break in the weather as well as a "werewolf" hunt (my 5 year old sons words) one night, to be honest my imagination did get a little carried away a few times!
The hosts Harriet and Michael we're warm and welcoming and if we would have had anything out of place or needed anything I'm sure both would have done their utmost to assist, but we had no issues at all.
I can't recommend the Garden House or Harriet and Michael enough. We were sad to leave but happy to have stayed.
We had a fabulous family stay over Christmas and New Year. Plenty of space to spread out for the whole family. Comfortable beds, clean and warm house with everything you need in a beautiful setting. Lots of wildlife in the grounds. Easy access to Edinburgh and the surrounding area. We’d happily return!
The property is amazing. Home is both charmingly historic while having all the modern needs available. The host was wonderful. They left us a sweet gift when we arrived and made the entire process extremely easy. I would recommend this for any family looking to stay in the Edinburgh area.
This home was truly beautiful. The setting was a garden oasis with abundant wildlife in your backyard. The inside was nicely appointed - a very large fully equipped kitchen, a den for TV viewing, a formal sitting room and 3 large bedrooms. You won’t go wrong renting this home!
