This lovely yurt is a fabric tent with wood ray ceiling structure and folding lattice wall structure that give the very enclosure a calming restful effect. Situated up the hill in the woods from Armstrong Lake, the yurt offers privacy and seclusion with full lake access. There are two fully separate bedrooms with queen beds and a sleeping loft with twin beds A huge dining table offers space for wonderful meals and card & board games, projects and crafts. A wood stove can provide ample heat for those cold spring or fall evenings or the dead of winter. A wonderful site for a quilting gathering or a yoga retreat. The full kitchen has a sink with cold water cooler (to be filled from outdoor spigot), a refrigerator, a stove with oven, a microwave oven, a toaster and a coffeemaker. Hot water showers, lavatory sinks, and latrine toilets are down the hill in the bathhouse. Like our other cabins at Wilderness Wind, the Eagle Yurt does NOT have a toilet. The shared living and dining area has two sofas a large dining table and 8 chairs to accommodate meetings and gatherings and there is a wood stove for heat or atmosphere. A deck offers a view of the lake and slivers of sunset light thru the trees. Yurt guests have full lake privileges including use of canoes, kayaks, the lakeshore swimming and seating area, the lakeshore firepit for bonfires. There is a Chickadee gathering space down by the lake for meetings, sing alongs, exercise classes, sewing groups, group gatherings that can be rented additionally (or used freely if not already in use by a group). It has tables and chairs and awesome views in all directions of the lake and the surrounding woods. The yurt is large enough to sleep six on beds. There is one parking space up the hill from the yurt on Bradach rd. Additional parking available down the access road near the cabins. It it is also warm and intimate enough to be comfortable for a couple of couples, as a romantic luxury but rustic getaway for a honeymoon or anniversary couple, or even for a single person who wants to experience the respite and unearthly glow of a canvas yurt and its geometric structure as the light changes with the time of day and the weather. The Eagle Yurt is like nowhere you have ever stayed before!

We had a wonderful stay with our two grandchildren. Since another family member was staying at one of the lakeside cabins, we really appreciated the Chickadee Landing gazebo as a central place for meals. The beach was the highlight for the boys.
The communication prior to arrival was awesome and Jay helped us with our reservations even. The resort had everything we needed and was perfect for our young girls to explore. They played in the sand, went fishing, and played with other kids that were staying in the cabins. Definitely planning to be back!
We were excited for our first stay in a yurt and it didn’t disappoint! The accommodations were great. The kids loved kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. The adults loved the peaceful and relaxed vibes, while supporting a great cause supporting rye Chicago Voyagers. We’d love to book again in the future.
We were looking for unique lodging near the boundary waters. The Eagle Yurt delivered. Pur kids love it. Jay was very accomodating and helpful. We had a great time.

Wonderful, rustic, very clean with friendly and helpful staff. Surrounded by raspberry and elderberry plants, probably ready to pick late July. Quiet, peaceful, with bushes n trees providing a bit of privacy. Very clean bathhouse. Jay was great.
This was our second summer trip to Wildnerness Wind because we were drawn back to our host Jay and his property for the awesome fishing, kayaking and ease of stay. The cabins on Lake Armstrong have all the amenities you would need on short notice. Definitely need bugspray, but as expected for an "up north summer vacation spot." We had a lovely time with family and the YURT was a great space to hangout and relax. Our younger aged kids (5-13) loved just hanging out in there playing games to break up the time from fishing and sun. Would highly recommend this location to anyone looking for an easy getaway. Family friendly and (small dog) friendly too. Will be back!
We had an amazing time at this property. Its location is really great because you're only about 10 minutes away from town if you need anything but once you're on the property you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. The yurt can get hot midday, but hopefully you're not spending your time inside and are out enjoying nature. There is an air conditioner in the yurt in case you do need to spend some time inside during the middle of the day. There are also flaps on the outside of the yurt that you can lift up during the day for more ventilation. Our favorite part was the chickadee gathering space with the adjacent deck which has a gas barbecue grill and a Blackstone flat top that you can use to cook outsides as well as dining tables and chairs. The chickadee building also has anything you need that might not be in the yurt. We also loved having access to the canoes and kayaks to be able to go out on the lake anytime we wanted. Kids were able to play on the beach and the adults were able to make use of the chairs around the fire ring during the day and evening. Overall a great time and would definitely recommend staying this property.
We had a great time at Wilderness Wind. The yurt is fantastic and spacious. Jay and Sammy were great hosts. It was a wonderful base for hiking and exploring. One of our best northern MN experiences ever!
Excellent location for fishing different lakes each day. Armstrong is a great Bass lake. The camp host - Jay was very accommodating and was knowledgeable of the fishing on the other lakes nearby. We had a great week. We would highly recommend Wilderness Wind to anyone that likes the outdoor adventure. Thanks, 5 Guys from Topeka, Kansas
We always wanted to stay in a yurt. This place was great! I'm only taking one star off because it didn't have a bathroom, but that was communicated clearly up front so I have no issues with that. The price just seems too high for a place without running water or a toilet. Otherwise it was gorgeous. The owner came by and chatted and set up a fire by the lake for everyone to use. There were kayaks and a paddle boat to use plus a dock for fishing. The place was clean and just as described. I really liked it. It was super quiet and had nice dark skies.
We had a really great time staying at the Eagle Yurt. The only real confusion we had was towards the lack of sheets on the beds, and it was a bit difficult to reach the five gallon bucket from the sink- it looked like the last people to stay there hadn’t bothered to dump it.
Wilderness Wind was a great place to show our teen-age grandchildren, who are bicultural, the place we moved to Minnesota for, and the place their father learned to enjoy from the age of 2. Kayaks, S’mores, big mosquitos, and loons were part of our visit.
Not the best place for elderly grandparents, but at ages 83&85, we managed without any unpleasant consequences. We even canoed diagonally across the lake and back without assistance.
My kids, mom and her partner stayed here for a weekend. The property is beautiful.
For reference- there is no running water to the yurt. They do provide 5 gallon water jugs for drinking. The dish wash station is in front of the bathhouse.
The screens coverings for the doors had some holes in it from previous guests so we had to watch when we could keep the doors open or not. It would be nice to use some screen repair tape to fix the holes. This did not take away from our experience. We would definitely come back
We thought the yurt was very nice - kinda fancy camping since we had a fridge and stove but still a few bugs. 5 kids slept on the loft which worked pretty well. A tip we realized half way through the trip: put towels on the railing to block light so they will maybe sleep while we stayed up. Kitchen worked great - we good all our meals there for 5 days! Loved all the activities - kayaks, paddle boats, motor boat, fishing off the dock, sandy area to play with sand toys (we brought our own), many great life jackets, fun floaties, great fire pit with 10 chairs. Jay was nice to give us a ride on his pontoon too! When the littles were napping we also used the gathering cabin to play games and read. They had some other toys and books there for us so that was nice too. Sheets/pillows/towels all provided so that helped with packing. We brought our own tye dye kit and made 10 bandannas for our group - fun!
Some improvements maybe could be a check in spot when you arrive - we were a little confused if we were in the correct spot and there really isn't a check in, a list of what is in the kitchen for before hand, and a mattress pad for the sofa sleepers (they are a bit uncomfortable and dusty). Thanks so much we hope to be back sometime!
Great place for adventure. The weather was cool and it rained off and on but we found many things to do! Shopping in Ely was fun, great restaurants and local bars too. We rented an ATV and ventured out on the trails. Very friendly people in town. The yurt stayed warm with the wood stove going. We did not have water available in the yurt and there were not any towels provided. So next time we will be better prepared. The host was great!
We loved the way this yurt was set up to feel so private. They offered more than expected including canoes and kayaks, fishing poles and bait. Firewood and kindling. Jay, the host, was so kind in checking in to ensure we had everything we needed. Loved the proximity to lots of great hiking spots.
The property was wonderful, just as described. The host went out of his way to make us feel welcomed and comfortable, even helped with our flat tire! We will definitely recommend this property to our friends and family!
Experience the edge of BWCA without giving up electricity
The yurt is just the right amount of seclusion with electricity and access to showers (down the hill). The Wilderness Wind property is rustic and relaxing. If you are looking for a good place to reconnect with your family- this is the place. Lake Armstrong is great for swimming, canoeing and Kayaking. Our teenager loved being out on the water and just relaxing. We loved the sense of community our host Jay fosters with around the the fire pit each night if you choose to join in. Imagine our surprise when our teen asked us if we could book again for next year! We will be back and recommending this property including the yurt and other rustic cabins to our friends.
