Nice getaway

The property was the perfect location for our family’s getaway from the crowds. The space the property provided allowed our entire party to relax and enjoy each other's company the entire time. Becca was communicative and accommodating to say the least. We will be returning.

Christmas Vacation

We had a very nice Christmas Vacation with the whole family. There was plenty of room for the 11 of of us. We enjoyed the games available, the beautiful decorations (thank you Becca) and the wildlife. Along with the resident peacocks we were visited by wild boar, turkey, and a pair of mountain goats. We would definitely go back. Things are a little dated but that is part of the charm. My grandchildren thought the place had to be haunted because, “if it’s old, it’s probably haunted, Pappaw.” Great time.

Truly unique stay, either for a family / friends hangout or for visiting Lincoln / Capitan / Ruidoso

My family and I loved staying at the house. The area is beautiful and secluded. It has a large number of beds and a seats and a very functional kitchen. I feel like there's two types of house rentals: the ones that are clearly just a minimally stocked place that hasn't had humans living there at length for years, and then rentals that feel lived in and loved, and has tons of small things. This house is very much in the latter better group. The house itself is covered in beautiful history and is very comfortable. I can't wait to plan a weekend around this with family and friends to all be together in one place, either just to hang out or to celebrate something or someone important.

If you are looking for quiet, relaxing, wilderness kind of adventure… this is your place. This VRBO easily sleeps 14 comfortably; we had 11 in our group with each group having their own bathroom. Rooms were all very spacious, comfortable beds and the environment was always perfect temp. The outdoors had plenty of seating with tables to eat outside and enjoy the cool mountain air. We also enjoyed the covered dance floor with the party lights glowing and the heated lamp to keep the chill off all the while jamming to our playlist music via our Bluetooth device dancing the night away and reminiscing all those good ole family growing up days and solving the world problems . We definitely highly recommend this VRBO to enjoy for your family/friends hangout. VRBO does not disappoint. Becca is a great host; very communicative and there for you should you have questions or need help with anything. We will definitely be returning to this VRBO for our next family gathering.

A Great Place to Relax and Rejuvenate

We stayed at Walnut Grove Ranch from 5-18-2025 through 5-25-2025, and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute there. We were surprised to learn that the historic home was built around 1870 by the same Sheriff Brady who encountered Billy the Kid. The spacious home served as our clean, comfortable and well-appointed base from which we visited the White Sands, Cloudcroft, the Inn of the Mountain Gods, historic Lincoln, Smoky Bear museum, and informative Fort Stanton. Not only was the home itself a delight, but every day we were entertained by the abundant wildlife there. We woke up and enjoyed our coffee to elk, Barbary Sheep, javelinas, peacocks, and wild turkeys all around us. It was like being in the center of a nature preserve. But best of all was our gracious and accommodating hostess, Becca. She paid attention to every detail, from the snacks in the kitchen to the board games hung on the wall. She ensured our stay was perfect and took care of everything we needed. We highly recommend Walnut Grove Ranch for your vacation experience, and we hope to get to come back ourselves again soon.

Our third stay. New Mexico history comes alive here. It feels like we are guests of Sheriff Brady in the 1870s. We saw turkeys, peacocks, wild goats and pigs. Lots of birds. There is a pond fed by a natural spring. I got the feeling of the way our ancestors lived in this wonderful mountain retreat. Can't wait to return.

Quiet Getaway in the Mountains

We enjoyed our stay. Our younger family members had fun exploring, seeing all the animals & playing in the beautiful backyard. The adults enjoyed the cool mountain air of the mornings & coffee on the patio. A great weekend to "unplug" & spend time with family!!

The Rubio's

Our stay at Walnut Grove Ranch was so peaceful and relaxing. The scenery and the house are just so beautiful I cannot express in words. I have five teenagers and they all had a blast exploring the property and learning all the history about the house and just Lincoln in general. Becca is the best host ever and was very responsive to any and all questions we had. We will definitely be planning another stay for much longer next time.
