The Cathedral and its picturesque Green are the jewel in Exeter's architectural crown. A popular location all year round with the Christmas Market an annual highlight.

The nearby cobbled streets are brimming with eateries, cafes and shops. England's oldest pub and hotel are a stone's throw away. For a modern dining experience, head to the city's new restaurant quarter for a cocktail at a rooftop bar or take your pick from a range of cuisines - Scandinavian, Middle Eastern or gourmet burgers.

The City also shines in the education arena with both Exeter University and Exeter College gaining national recognition as standout educational providers.

Exeter is one of the regions favourite places for shopping and Princesshay offers an abundance of high-street brands, with smaller independents nestled on the cobbled walkway of Gandy Street, located in the Castle quarter of the city.

The History

Cathedral View, originally home to Wippell ecclesiastical suppliers in the 1880’s, is a Grade II listed building with impressive original Gothic Revival features. Exeter Cathedral is one of the oldest and arguably one of the most beautiful in England, dating back to the early 12th century. The Norman Cathedral, which was replaced from 1270 - 1340, forms the base for the beautiful Gothic building we see today, with its famous west front and elegant nave. The city itself dates back more than 2,000 years and once served as a centre of trade for the Roman Empire. The old city walls can still be found in nearby Southernhay, forming part of the City Wall Trail, one of many historical walks around Exeter. The city also shines in the education arena with both Exeter University and Exeter College gaining national recognition as stand out educational providers.

A dedicated restaurant quarter on Queen Street has brought new restaurants to the city, with rooftop bars, DJs and live music, making this a firm favourite for foodies. Exeter is also one of the region’s favourite places for shopping. Princesshay offers an array of high-street brands, with smaller independents in the Castle Quarter of the city, Gandy Street and Fore Street.
