My husband and l are from the USA and stayed for one week in February 2026 in a room with a king size bed and ocean views. I was very nervous about going to a remote island with no chain hotels or known car rental agencies. The island businesses are completely run by locals using whatsapp. Mar em Mim had only 12 reviews at the time l made the reservation, so it was kinda risky, but l it had everything l wanted.
I was so pleasantly surprised. The pousada (bed & breakfast) was exactly as pictured...

We stayed for six nights and enjoyed it a lot. It’s a new facility which is always a plus. Bruno - the host - was extremely helpful and talked English - which is quite rare on the island. There is a nice hot breakfast and a coffee with cake in the afternoon. (Ask for hot water if needed for tea. 😉) We liked the location a lot. It’s not in the centre of the island, but closer to the port - excellent for snorkeling. A local bus just 3 mins walk will take you almost everywhere on the island. Three...

The staff was super nice but one staff member Gabriel went above and beyond the call of duty in assisting us with whatever we needed. One late night we could not find a good place to eat and we texted Gabriel and she came to our rescue and suggested a nice pizza place that did late night delivery. This hotel is extremely lucky to have someone like Gabriel as a staff...
