"So. This review only refers to the hotel. Schluchsee and the surrounding area is amazing and I absolutely recommend the restaurant Seehof in Schluchsee, although they also have service issues. The hotel is by far not as nice and comfortable as advertised in the pictures and on Expedia as a whole. The rooms are quite frankly a catastrophe in this price segment; no amenities except for a fridge, no AC, no ceiling fan, not even a water boiler. "It's a decent hotel in Freiburg. Positives are it was air conditioned (though not too cool), pet friendly, central location and has car park (note, I drive a Ford Ranger pick-up and it was very tight in the underground car park - don't even attempt anything bigger). Main gripe was at check-in (which took nearly 30mins after a very long drive). Matey tried to charge me double the confirmed Expedia rate as he claimed that my 17 year old son should pay adult rate when Expedia shows <18 yr olds as children. He then told me the hotel was fully booked out if I didn't pay the excessive rate and it was my fault for not knowing Novotel see 16+ as adults. Cue much discussion and then he eventually placated. Other guy on desk tapped on the computer next to him pretending not to notice the long cue forming behind me. Not a great experience on that front but otherwise ok."

"I stayed in a renovated room and had no complaints. AC was great, space was large and comfortable. The hotel is right next to a convenient bus stop. It does take about 25 minutes to get to the train station by bus, and it's a fair distance from Old Town. Breakfast wasn't worth the money, but it was convenient. Overall I would stay here, just have an idea of where you want to visit to know if this location is convenient."

"Really lovely hotel. The staff were wonderful and accommodating. The area is a short tram ride from the station and the centre of the city. I was pleasantly surprised by my room which was spacious and comfortable. Obligatory kettle which is required in any good hotel room but a rarity abroad sometimes. Well worth a stay"
