"I had a very relaxing weekend away at the Shepherds Hut but there were a few things that I felt hadn’t been explained beforehand on the VRBO website. Whilst there was a kitchen there weren’t many things to cook with, for example saucepans/ wooden spoons so I was glad I have some in my camping kit which I carry in my car. I also had to provide my own washing up liquid. The bathroom was beautifully clean but be sure to bring an extra hand towel and bath mat for the shower as you get given only one...

Top Forest of Dean District Hotel Reviews

Bells Hotel and Country Club

10/10 Excellent

"I was in a single room, basic but clean. The hotel does need a refresh, and that is planned for next year. There is a gym guests can use, and spa treatments are also available (payable) in the Serenity Suite, a separate business on site. Staff were welcoming and very helpful."

The Royal Lodge

8/10 Good

"Beautiful setting right on the river with a very friendly staff team and clean and well appointed rooms. It’s not luxurious but everything is thought through and it’s clean. Mattress on the bed was a bit worn - I could feel the springs a bit, so that could do with a replacement but it was a generally really comfortable and relaxed stay. Food was very good - very nice cooked breakfast and I had one evening meal which was very generous. As a solo traveller I felt very comfortable and the staff were lovely, ensuring that I had everything I needed. Would return."
