Fortress of Solitude
Want to get away? Fortress of Solitude is a modernist vacation house on 30 acres. Relax with a drink on the porches listening to birdsong. Passive solar design helps the indoors stay comfortable and the house has many windows. Built in 2007, this unique concrete home has style that calls back to classic NC tobacco barns. Surrounded by forest with no neighbors in sight, this home has excellent privacy.
Driveway is approximately half a mile. Property begins at the red gate and extends down to creek. House is surrounded by woods on all sides.
Two porches and upstairs balcony area are available to enjoy.
There is a TV and DVD player in the upstairs loft area. Downstairs living room has a stereo with CD player or bring some books and enjoy the quiet life.
Kitchen includes a Keurig Duo coffee machine that makes K-cups or brews ground coffee by the pot.
Camera Disclosure: Exterior security camera on front of the house monitors and records motion for the driveway and front steps. There are no cameras or monitoring devices indoors of any kind.

This place is way off the highway, incredibly quiet and clean as a whistle. If anything brings me back to this area, I’ll absolutely book this place again.

If you like nature, the fortress is for you. Completely out in the woods with no neighbors in sight. This is a wonderfully relaxing place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life. The fortress is nicely laid out. I especially enjoyed the upstairs study / television room ,screened in porches and being surrounded by nature. We enjoyed it very much and will return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Fortress of Solitude. The name fits it well. The 30 acres provide fabulous privacy and make this a great retreat when you just want to get away from it all and be surrounded by nature.
The house is small but does not at all feel cramped. The concrete walls and floor have a lovely finish, not the typical one-dimensional gray. Furnished are tasteful and comfortable, decor is warm and appealing, and necessities such as cookware, dishes, paper towels, and toilet paper were supplied sufficient for our two-night stay.
We enjoyed exploring the woods and finding a nearby creek. The autumn colors were a feast for the sight, and the sounds of nature were great for the soul.
If you're looking to retreat from civilization and just rest and relax, I highly recommend Fortress of Solitude. We'd happily return for a longer stay next time.
