While it's a good 15 mins or so up a hill from the station, for £40 or so, there's nothing at all to complain about- big rooms with cooking facilities, microwave and even a dishwasher should you need it, a lovely swimming pool and staff who were knowlegable and extremely helpful; particularly Guaytan , who couldn't have been more efficient and personable. "Apartment was very clean and in a perfect position to explore. Very quiet too.Several good restaurants 2 minutes walk away and more in the Medieval City. There are a few different walking routes up to the Chateau but none were too strenuous (we are in our 60’s & 70’s)There’s a lovely Épicerie just 2 doors away where you can buy fresh baguettes, cheese, wine and other provisions, the staff there are extremely friendly.This was our first time in France and it was beyond our expectations."

"The location was about as good as you can hope - crazy close to the train station and conveniently located next to the canal, right outside of the touristic heart of the city. The rental was spacious and crazy comfortable - with amenities aplenty, the washing machine was a godsend. The rental looked clean, the terrace was perfect for a nice meal and a bottle of wine to unwind after a nice, hot day. AC made the apartment nice and cool, which was a must in the sweltering heat. "Lovely spacious apartment with a balcony. Very good value for money. Used the swimming pool a couple of times and was the only person in there. Be aware it is in a retirement complex. The only negative is that the apartment wasn't cleaned while we were there (5 nights) and there were no cleaning products in there to do this ourselves. We were able to collect clean towels from reception but the used ones were not collected. Should have just asked. Having said all that, I would stay there again and simply buy some cleaning wipes."

"Very nice hotel in a very quiet area. Our room was having a small terrace at the garden main floor of the hotel. The staff was very helpful having a shuttle car to the parking outside the citadel. The breakfast was very good. We enjoyed the old streets, the old church and the old castle all very close to the hotel."

"As per previous reviews, this property was a great place to stay. It's smack bang in Portsmouth Harbour and right next to the bus station and Gosport ferry so couldn't be more convenient if that's your goal. It is a very urban location but a nice view of the harbour on one side but the bus station on the other. Breakfast was included in the rate and Excellent! Even the coffee was great (and having just returned from France, UK coffee is normally a step down). Unlike many properties like this, there's a proper lift which is a godsend if you have heavy bags as I did. Overall Recommended"

"The hotel is situated in a fantastic location, a stone’s throw from the medieval citie. I stayed in room 4 on the ground floor of the hotel for a 3 night trip. The room was beautiful and well equipped with coffee machine, water, air conditioning, bath and shower. The staff were friendly and very helpful throughout our visit. A big thank you to the night porter for my birthday drink. I would definitely recommend and visit again."
