Other than the location being quite a long way to walk to town, very quiet area with little options of bars around the area, ideal for someone who enjoys the full benefits of peace and quiet

There are plenty of food options available for selection for your meals. The staff was very attentive to our needs and provided to-go lunches to take on our excursions - simply need to order day before and pick up on our way out. They also offer bus service to and from Funchal (need to check bulletin for schedule). The front desk team took initiative with providing a very nice birthday cake and champagne-truly appreciated. Highly recommend and hope to be back again.

The property was disappointed, it was not what I expected. The food was not as great, choices were limited, there was more pork than I wanted. The mattress was thin and old, I did not get any good sleep. On good note the property was clean and the staff was great.

We had a lovely stay at Pestana Royal. The food was great, varied and always fresh. The staff were always available and ready to lend a helping hand. Bedroom turn down service was regular and thorough. Would definitely recommend!

Good hotel, very clean, kind personel. On 45 min. walking distance from the towncener. Great room, pay a little extra for seaview: it's worth it. Very good food! Only downside were the worndown matrasses.

The food at the buffet was excellent. Lots of choices. Fresh fruit and salads and a great selection of fish and meats and vegetarian options. Staff are very friendly. It is just west of Funchal so a little quieter but walked into Old Town and had a rental car to explore the island. Lots of great hiking in Madeira. I will come back!!!!

From checking in to dining to nightly entertainment. This resort is above our expectations. The staff at the front desk just couldn’t do enough To make sure our stay was everything we wanted. The dining and wait staff were beyond accommodative to any needs. Friendly, kind and respectful. Helen at the dining runs a great staff, it was so great to see a head staff having fun with everyone. So much respect show amongst staff. And, yes the food was absolutely great. Every meal had so much to choose from. Pestana Royal exceeded our expectations! Thank you for making our vacation more than we could have imagined.

The service and the quality of the food are excellent. The gardens and pools are beautiful and very clean. However, I can't say the same for the rooms. I was very disappointed with the condition of the rooms for a 5 stars hotel, they are old, the carpets are worn and smell damp. The rooms are badly in need to be refreshed/renovated.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had an exceptional 10-day stay at this hotel! The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. The buffet service was amazing with a great variety of desserts, fruits, and fresh salads every day. While the food selection was overall very good, we would’ve loved to see more beef and chicken options, as there was a lot of pork and fish. The pool area is beautiful and very well maintained, making it a relaxing spot to spend the day. We also really appreciated the snack bar with hot items—a great touch for between meals! One of the most memorable parts of our trip was celebrating my son’s birthday. I simply mentioned it in the special instructions when booking the room, and on his birthday, the staff surprised him with a birthday cake delivered to our room. It meant so much to us and made the day extra special. A huge thank you to all the staff for your hard work and for going above and beyond every day to make sure every guest feels special. You truly made our vacation one to remember!!!!!

Great location! Property a little outdated and food pretty average. Could be a little better but it’s understandable as an all inclusive. Staff is great we lived Conceição Brito from the buffet dining room she was kind, offered tips on where to travel and what to see and was just so adorable. She is amazing!

Great resort for families - especially those with older (teenage) children. Between the mini golf, tennis, billiards, lawn chess, and the pools, the kids were kept busy. We loved the "activity team" that organized and ran all the events by the pool every day. Staff, especially bartenders, were really friendly and even fun. There was plenty to eat and drink all day, but not always a wide variety of food choices. We could only book each of the two specialty restaurants (Italian and Medeiran) once each. Surprisingly, there was no small on-site store for incidentals like sunscreen, toiletries, snacks, clothes, gifts, etc... Also, many popular drinks were moved to a "premium" membership and we couldnt even buy one from that menu on a special occasion without upgrading our entire stay! We had to leave the resort to buy those drinks, and so we did. Money the resort could have easily earned. All said and done, we all had a good time, but it wouldnt have taken much from the resort to make it so much better!

Last minute decision to go to Pestana Royal and first in Madeirs. After the booking I read the reviews and was in two minds. I didnt need to be as the place and rooms are spotlessly clean, food caters for all needs. A number of choices for hot and cold fish or meat eaters, vegetarians,(vegetables all dente). The rooms could do updating as a bit old fashion, but very clean. What does make this five star hotel are the staff. Not fair to name individuals,as they are all amazing, work hard and with pleasure. I certainly will be back.

This is a great safe place for families. We brought our toddler with us and the all inclusive aspect was so helpful to make sure we could meet her needs and the food was pretty simple and non-spicy. This might not be our favorite food but was great for small children. The activities, music, playground, beach access, and location were also great. The hotel was able to connect us with a great contact for a private driver. The dining and drinks staff was so friendly and helpful. The reception was professional and friendly as well. Areas of improvement would be a bit cleaner and updated rooms. The room smelt a bit musty and felt old but not dirty. Some of the amenities in the room were not that posh but that was very acceptable for the price and the things we did get from the property. We could also hear someone use the toilet/shower above us which was a bit frustrating. Also, there is no real room service all day as was mentioned to us. I would definitely stay here again with my family and recommend to anyone who likes quiet non-party atmosphere. There were also quite a few retirees who stayed while we were there and they were so kind and sweet to our child that it made the experience even better!

The property was clean. The Staff were helpful. The average patron here was 60 or older. The buffet was ok. You have to stay a certain number of nights ti be able to make a reservation at their other restaurants. I could hear the people in the next room. Would consider a hotel closer to the city center which would make it more walkable. There is access to the Formosa which has beach access as well as some cafe on the beach.
