Riverside Lodge - wildlife watching & minutes to Yellowstone Park! 4BR / 3BA

The year-round wildlife viewing opportunities between Riverside Lodge and Mammoth are some of the best in Yellowstone!

Yellowstone Riverside Lodge is situated on the boundary of the Northern Range of Yellowstone. Nestled on 1.5 acres beside the Yellowstone River, this fully stocked home is the perfect base camp for families, fishermen, and Yellowstone touring. This home is 5 miles to Gardiner and 3 miles to Yellowstone Hot Springs on the private side of the river (less highway traffic = more wildlife!)

The shoreline along the river is a great spot to fish, although you may have to share the riverbank with the elk!

A note from a previous guest:

"Snowcapped majestic mountains, river with small waterfall and wildlife all around, it is a breath taking view from inside this amazing house.
The house was pristine, super clean and very well stocked with whatever a person would need and then some!
I would highly recommend a visit to this unique experience, one very seldom found!!!"

Jill - October 2022

Here are some details about the home:

Bedrooms and baths: The home has plenty of room to spread out with four bedrooms, three with private doors to the river view. On the main level there is a large master bedroom with king size bed, door to the covered deck overlooking the river, and a private bath with shower. A second bedroom nearby on the main level has twin bunks. This bedroom adjoins a bath with a stall shower. On the lower, walk-out level of the home there are two additional roomy bedrooms, each with a queen size bed, river views and their own door out to the covered patio. One of these bedrooms has a small vanity and sink in the room as well. There are 3 full-sized bathrooms in this home. Two are located on the main level (one is en suite with the master bedroom and the other adjoins the bedroom with the bunk beds and is also accessible from the hallway) and the third bathroom is located on the lower level in the hallway and serves the two lower level bedrooms.

Kitchen: The fully-stocked open kitchen has everything you will need including updated appliances, microwave, drip coffee maker, toaster, crock pot, and a large pantry for your groceries. After a day spent exploring Yellowstone Park, you can kick off your hiking boots and gather around the island and recount your adventures while dinner is underway. If the cool evening is too much to resist, take the cooking out to the deck and soak in the river vibes as you cook on the gas grill. The local market is just 5 miles away and offers a wide array of local and gourmet items in addition to the normal staples, so you will be all set for your stay.

Dining area: The dining table will seat eight. In summer months, you’ll probably be enjoying meals outdoors on the deck overlooking the river, which is outfitted with a dining table and 6 chairs as well as cushioned rockers.

This home has 2 separate gathering areas, which is great for families looking to spread out. Upstairs in the great room, the living room is the ideal place to relax and put your feet up while still taking in the views through the picture windows looking out to Electric Peak, the tallest peak in the north side of Yellowstone Park at 11,000 feet. It's truly breathtaking! The other side of the living room boasts inviting river views and deck access that complete the picture.

On the lower level, the second gathering area is the perfect destination for fun and games. The large family room boasts a wonderful old upright piano, a mini pool & air hockey table, and a TV watching area with a 48” Flatscreen SmartTV, DVD player and satellite service. There’s also a nice collection of games, toys, local books, and kids’ movies. This space is great for kids and adults alike and makes spending time together as a family easy and entertaining.

Laundry room: This rental home includes a full-sized washer dryer set with detergent, a full sized extra fridge, iron and ironing board, and utility sink. It is also stocked with extra towels for swimming in the river.

Outdoor Amenities: A huge deck overlooks the river with a private patio below. Both spaces are outfitted with comfortable porch furniture to take in the outstanding views and privacy. The Riverside Lodge sits on the Yellowstone River so the river frontage is a huge draw of this property. There is a wonderful fishing hole just down the path from the house. Depending on the water level, there is a small island to explore and small areas of sand to dig in (usually around July 1 onward). We encourage exploration but also want you to be safe so we are happy to answer your questions and give you guidance about the river access. You can wander down the trail below the high water mark as far as you please. There are many trailheads nearby both within the Park boundaries and on nearby National Forest.

Location: The inspiring views from the property include Electric Peak, Devil's Slide, and of course the rolling Yellowstone River. Riverside Lodge is located just 5 easy miles north of the iconic Roosevelt Arch marking the original entrance to Yellowstone Park. The road to the lodge is gravel but is easy to drive and takes you through meadows at the base of the northern range where it is not uncommon to see antelope, elk, bighorn sheep, coyotes, and sometimes bison in the cooler months. Of course, grizzlies and wolves live in the hills of Yellowstone, too, and can be seen on occasion along this drive as well. It’s incredible country! Across the northern boundary of the property is a neighboring ranch’s irrigated hay field, which attracts herds of elk and deer year-round.

Once at the Riverside Lodge, you continue to experience Yellowstone's magic. From the deck of the lodge on an early summer evening, you can close your eyes and enjoy the sound of cascading water from the Little Trail Creek waterfall across the river, Canada geese calling from their nesting grounds along the river, a variety of birds and owls, and the delightful calls of newborn elk calves talking with their mothers. Fall is famous for bugling bull elk, which can be heard day and night from this unique spot. Starting in November, herds of Bighorn Sheep congregate below Devil’s Slide about 2 miles from the home. Pull off the road and listen to the resounding clash of heads as the males fight for dominance. Not your typical place.

There are lots of recreational opportunities in this area: miles and miles of trails, whitewater and scenic rafting, horseback riding, e-bike tours, wildlife tours, fishing, shopping, restaurants and food trucks, scenic drives, soaking in Yellowstone Hot Springs, Chico Hot Springs, and local music venues.

*WINTER stays are available upon request, depending on snow and road conditions. Winter is a magical time to visit Yellowstone. You must have a four wheel drive vehicle for travel on winter roads.

Unbelievable experience

The riverhouse was perfect for our family of 6 as we explored Yellowstone. An elk herd of about 200 hung out around the house and in the river the whole time we were there. It was truly magical!

Perfect Yellowstone Lodging

Great clean property with everything you could need available to you. The only thing at all I would add would be TVs in the bedrooms. I believe only the main bedroom upstairs had one. Not a big deal to me at all, but may be to some people. (Ie my husband who likes to watch the news in bed )

Beautiful home on Yellowstone River

We throughly enjoyed our stay! The house, wildlife, and scenery is absolutely beautiful! We had 6 adults with plenty of room for making meals and not being on top of each other. We had everything we needed from spices, pots and pans, to plenty of towels. It was awesome to sit on the porch and see eagles, elk and the river. I have already recommended this place to 2 friends. Kelly was wonderful and very informative about what to do and see in the area as well as in Yellowstone National Park. A great time was had by all in our party!!

The 10-15 min drive into Yellowstone is perfect for animal viewing in March. House extremely clean. Kitchen & house very well equipped for our family of 9. Even had toys for our grandchildren. Spacious rooms with gorgeous mountain & river views. Communication with the manager excellent. Would give this house a strong recommend.

They though of everything!

Fantastic place to stay- close to the Yellowstone entrance and Gardiner. It is a few miles down a dirt road but that didn’t bother me at all. We saw elk and bison from the house. Everything you could ever need for kitchen gadgets and very clean. Coolers to borrow and games to play. Plenty of room for our family of 5. Teenagers we’re thrilled to have their own rooms.

The Great Escape

We had a great time. The house is wonderful. The location is beautiful! The house is down a long curvy unpaved road, its a fun drive in the proper vehicle. We had wildlife in or around the yard daily. The proximity to the park and town is also perfect. It far enough away to feel secluded but close enough to make it convenient. Everything worked and was clean. We would definitely recommend. P.S don’t forget to go out at night and look at the stars! OMG!

Family Yellowstone Trip

Beautiful home right on the river. After long days in the park, coming home to the awaiting deck overlooking the river was awesome. Great relaxation time for the adults while the kids were loving the pool table and hanging out down by the river. House was an Ellen’s and as described. Check in was a breeze and the whole week couldn’t have gone any smoother. Would definitely recommend to everyone, regardless of age or family size. This house can accommodate.

Perfect for a Family Going to Yellowstone

This house was perfect for my family of six. It had absolutely everything we needed from extra towels and blankets to plenty of spices in the cupboard. We had ample room to spread out while the gathering spaces also offered seating for playing games and relaxing together (and there are LOTS of games in the laundry room). The location of the house let us enjoy the tranquility of listening to the Yellowstone River and not a lot of traffic or human noise. It also gave us super easy access into the northern entrance of the park, making it easy for us to come and go for hikes, sight seeing and programs in the park. For those who love stargazing, this was an especially nice location because we could literally walk to where there was no light pollution and enjoy the night sky. (Do bring bear spray on those walks just to be safe - they have that at the house, too.). One note for families with young children: they have all that you will need to keep little ones safe and entertained, including a pack and play. It was one of the best houses we have ever rented for a vacation!

Hidden gem

We loved this property. The pictures online were helpful, but the place was even better when we arrived. The property was fully stocked with everything we could need, even some cooking supplies in the pantry. They had all the comforts and then some (games, toys, cards, pool/air hockey table) and the views of the river and surrounding area were gorgeous. We saw tons of wild animals right outside the front door and even got stuck behind a bison crossing twice driving in to YNP and Gardiner. We were super close to the Yellowstone hot springs and YNP. We would definitely stay here again.

Our stay in Riverside Lodge was fantastic. The location in Gardiner on the Yellowstone River was so beautiful. We saw herds of elk and antelope in the fields surrounding the house. A stunning home, clean, comfortable and well equipped. Even with bear spray, sun screen and insect repellant, as well as plenty of kitchen supplies. The location of this home was perfect for us. We spent so much time on the large deck in the evenings and listened to the Yellowstone River. Elk , Pronghorn and even a Male Grizzly on the dirt road amongst the sagebrush, all close to the house. The whole process of booking too checking in and out was seamless. We all loved staying at Riverside Lodge, and would return. Thank you Yancey and Kelly, amazing hosts. The Woodruffs and Richards. A Gem Just Outside the Park

Wow! Down an unpaved but well maintained roadway you come upon an absolute gem of a rental property. The location is fantastic- scenic river just outside the door, mountains and abundant wildlife. Fishing right out back while watching the rafters go by. We watched elk swim across in the early morning. The home is clean and extremely well stocked . There is even bear spray and bug repellent. I would most definitely recommend this property!!

Perfect Location

10/10… The location couldn’t have been any more ideal. The Yellowstone River in your backyard. Technically the beginning of Yellowstone is within walking distance and the North Entrance is a short 10-15 minute drive where you will likely see pronghorn and elk. The cabin was very spacious for 8 people and it was extremely clean and well kept. We will definitely be back!

This property was perfect for our family of 5 (plus our dog). The house was perfect for our family. Lots of room, privacy, and beautiful scenery all around.
