Enjoy hiking for hours right out the front door! Upon booking, our website is provided with recommendations for things to do, see, eat, and drink in the area!
The Hygge Chalet is located in the rural Rocky Mountains. It is only 1 hour from Denver, 40 mins to Red Rocks, 1.5 hrs to Boulder, and 1 hr to skiing. There is an abundance of outdoor activities nearby that make perfect day trips all year round.
HYGGE: ['hue-gah'] (verb/Danish) To feel warmth, coziness, comfort, snug: a sense of wellbeing, belonging, contentment, togetherness, intimacy, happiness; enjoying simple pleasures, such as a warm cup of coffee by the fire, a walk in the woods, or a candlelit meal.
Whether you're looking for a cozy mountain retreat to read in the hammock and relax in front of the fireplace or to get outside and explore nature, the Hygge Chalet is the perfect place to experience hygge to recharge by yourself or reconnect with loved ones. There are plenty of mountain activities to fill your cup during all of Colorado's incredible 4 seasons!
LIVING ESSENTIALS: The home is 1400 square feet with an open floor plan. The full kitchen has high-quality cookware and all your dining essentials. Basics such as, cooking oil, salt and pepper, spices, condiments are provided. A fair-trade and organic beverage bar with Chemex, local coffee, tea, and hot chocolate is yours to indulge in. The home is stocked with books, board games, an iPad for movies, or music, a Bluetooth speaker loud enough to fill the home, and a gas fireplace for a cozy ambiance. All high-quality linens, towels, robes, and slippers are freshly-washed right before your stay. As is customary for almost all homes at high elevation, there is no A/C due to the cool temps year-round in the evenings and mornings. We are intentional about furnishing and cleaning the home with local and sustainable products as much as possible.
BED & BATH: Both bedrooms have super comfortable queen beds with brand new mattresses. The bathroom has a walk-in shower with body wash, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and hair dryer provided, plus many toiletries and extras in case you forgot something.
PRIVATE SAUNA: The barrel steam sauna truly sets this place apart from all the rest. It's easy to use and allows you to sauna bathe in the traditional Finnish way by pouring water onto heated rocks to create steam. Most nights in the Rockies are clear enough to see the Milky Way and star-gazing is exceptional here, especially when taking a cool-down break from the sauna. Read printed in-home instructions prior to use.
OUTDOOR LIVING: The A-frame is located on 3.5 private wooded acres adjacent to National Forest. Relax and enjoy the stunning views from the large wrap-around deck with café lights, dining area, 2 hammocks, Adirondack chairs, and a high-end gas grill with a smoker.
EV CHARGER: Our complimentary Level 2 EV charger is made by Colorado's own Emporia and considered the "Best Level 2 EV Charger of 2024!"
CUSTOM MURAL: Behind the home is a custom street art-inspired mural as a nod to Denver with an Aspen and Mandala scene created by a talented local Denver artist.
AWD WINTER REQUIREMENT: All Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicle is REQUIRED for all guests during Nov. through April due to unpredictable weather and steep mountain roads. However, it can snow as early as Oct and and into May. The road to the house is regularly plowed.
RULES: Absolutely NO fires, no smoking, no pets, no hunting, no leaving trash outside, no littering. Guests must sign basic renter agreement prior to checking in agreeing to rules.
ROAD NOISE: The chalet is located up the mountain from I-285, which is a plowed, well-maintained highway to get you safely and easily exploring year round. The home is private and secluded on 3.5 acres. I-285 cannot be seen from the property, but sometimes traffic can be heard. Depending on the weather and traffic (especially busy holiday weekends) the sounds from the road will vary. If you're expecting absolute silence and total seclusion, this may not be the place for you.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN BUCKET LIST: Upon booking, you will receive our website that we created for guests filled with day-trip itineraries, recommendations on places to visit, things to do and see, places to hike/snowshoe, and local places to eat and drink. It includes a map with categories and distances from the chalet to help plan your trip! We are passionate about Colorado and dedicated to making your visit one for the books! The Hygge Chalet is the perfect place for a quiet, serene retreat or as a basecamp for your next adventure.
GUANELLA PASS: The Hygge Chalet is just a couple minutes from Guanella Pass, which provides an incredible mountain drive of spectacular views, otherworldly landscapes at 12,000 feet, bighorn sheep, winding streams, waterfalls, lakes, and access to endless hiking. If you drive the full pass, it takes you to a cute mountain town, Georgetown, and other neat places along the I-70 corridor. Guanella Pass is a Scenic Byway and is one of the most sought-after locations for aspen leaf peeping in fall. Guanella Pass is a very popular place to hike in the fall and summer, plan to arrive early on weekends to get parking for your favorite trail, especially if you're going to tackle a 14er such as Mount Bierstadt or Mount Blue Sky. About 7 miles up the pass, it will close for through traffic in snowy months (late-Nov to late-May) but you can still access many trails year round up until the closure point and hike/snowshoe beyond that point.
HOT SPRINGS: Going over Kenosha Pass takes you to South Park (yes, the town from the TV show), Buena Vista, Salida, etc. which is an area loaded with things to do and see all year round, including 3 exceptional natural hot springs!
EXPLORING AND ADVENTURES: The cabin is close to stunning hikes of various difficulties, world-class fishing, adventure activities (zip-line, high ropes course, whitewater rafting, etc.), cultural and historical activities (ghost towns, mining for gold, dinosaur fossils, etc.), surreal aspen leaf peeping in the fall, horseback riding, ATV, train rides, sleigh rides, snowshoeing/snowmobiling in winter, and cute mountain towns to explore with wonderful small businesses to support.
DINING: There are several cafes and restaurants nearby where you can experience true mountain friendliness. Our favorite and the closest (just down the hill) is the Shaggy Sheep. Make sure to stop in and say hello and enjoy the best mountain comfort food. There are many fantastic local breweries, distilleries, wineries, and restaurants in Park County in both directions on I-285.
RED ROCKS: Red Rocks Amphitheater is just 40 minutes away. This is considered one of the best places in the world to see a concert and doing so should be on anyone's bucket list. Even if you can't make a show, the park is well-worth a visit to hike, go to the visitor's center with fantastic music history, and just see the amphitheater and go on stage.
SKIING/SNOWBOARDING: The closest ski resort is Breckenridge at an hour's drive (and a beautiful one) and is a perfect day trip to ski/snowboard or just hang around in a beautiful ski town (there is a lot to do and see here no matter the time of year). Vail, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, Copper Mountain, Eldora, Echo Mountain, Monarch, Winter Park, or Beaver Creek are between 1.25-2 hours. Note travel times are unpredictable in snowy weather.
INTERNET/TV: Our High-speed satellite WiFi is fast enough for your remote work or streaming needs. By design, there is not a TV in the house since we encourage unplugging for the best hygge experience. Enjoy the vibes of the Hygge Chalet Spotify playlist and great sound on the Marshall speaker, which is controlled by the provided iPad.
ELEVATION: The A-frame cabin is at 9,000 feet. Some people experience minor to severe symptoms from the altitude (headache, sleepiness, dizziness, nausea, etc.). If you are coming from a lower elevation, we recommend giving yourself at least a day to acclimate in the Denver/Boulder area. Staying hydrated and avoiding alcohol will also help prevent these symptoms. The natural bedrock spring water direct from the sink is some of the best water in the US, so please stay hydrated during your time and always have water with you on day trips. Reusable water bottles and hydration powder packets are provided to help guests acclimate and stay hydrated.

We had a wonderful stay at the Hygge Chalet. It was a perfect getaway. The Chalet was located in a wonderful spot, With wonderful accommodations. It was far enough in the woods to feel secluded, but close to local entertainment, hiking trails, great restaurants and coffee shops. Enjoyed every minute of our stay!! We couldn’t have enjoyed our stay at Hygge Chalet more than we did - unless we had stayed longer!! The house was just oozing with charm and extremely functional. the listing is 100% accurate and the chalet is even more than that. Peaceful, comfortable, cozy, restful. Sara was a wonderful host and very attentive to communications. Spent one day visiting Breckenridge for a sleigh ride and dinner. We can’t wait to return to Hygge Chalet.

We were lucky enough to spend a few days at the chalet with our two boys (ages 10 and 12). We could not have been happier with the space, the ambience, the amenities, and the accessibility of the hosts. We spent the weekend playing games, coloring, doing puzzles, and cooking meals, all within a space full of natural light. When it was time for us to pack up and go, not one member of our family felt ready -- we could've used a few more days. :) Thank you, Hygge Chalet!

Amazing little place that is so easy to get away to! Just one hour from Denver. The Hygee style the chalet embraces really fit with our “getaway into coziness mentality!”
Second time staying here. Will come back again!

This spot is so fun. I love the decor, the amenities, and wow — the sauna was amazing. It was such a great way to debrief and it was exactly what we needed. The games and books are perfect and the fireplace was the perfect way to heat the a-frame and keep cozy. We loved the little welcome snack basket and definitely enjoyed some hot cocoa. Would definitely come back!

We would recommend the Hygge chalet for anyone looking for a peaceful, relaxing getaway. The cabin itself is incredibly cozy and has everything you'd want, from the comfortable furnishings and stunning patios to thoughtful touches like a delightful tea selection, bathrobes, ambient mood lighting, and a variety of games.
The location strikes a perfect balance—it’s not too far from Denver, making it easily accessible, yet it feels secluded, nestled deep in the mountains. There are several beautiful hiking trails nearby, with options for all skill levels, from easy walks to more challenging treks. We especially appreciated the sauna as a perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring.
Our stay was easy, fun, and exactly the rest and reset we needed. Thank you so much, Sarah, for creating such a magical space!

My wife stayed at the Hygge Chalet outside Grant, CO just after the 4th of July and we truly loved it! The charming place was exactly as listed, and Sarah was very responsive to the couple questions we have. Everything is pretty much covered in an onsite guide, so take a few minutes to read it. It would have helped if I had read the guide prior to trying to turn on the sauna. The chalet was absolutely clean, and we loved sitting on one of the decks for either dinner of morning coffee. I appreciated that it was at the end of a road, isolated, and provided a lot of relaxation. As we live in Denver, we are looking forward to our next visit.

The Hygge Chalet was everything it promised to be and more. It's clear they've put a lot of effort into ensuring their guests feel taken care of while staying at the Chalet—from the delightful snacks in the kitchen (which came in handy!) to Sara's responsiveness to my questions.
We got snowed in on the last full day of our stay, but we couldn't have asked for a more peaceful place to watch the snow fall. Sara also coordinated with her very kind neighbour to plow the path down the hill so we could make it back into the city to catch our flight the next day.
10/10 would recommend. We can't wait to come back again!

Our stay at this charming A-frame house was absolutely delightful! The two-bedroom, one-bath home is incredibly well-appointed with modern amenities, ensuring comfort while maintaining a cozy, rustic charm.
Nestled in a secluded area, the property offers a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature. We particularly loved the hiking trail right out the back, perfect for morning walks and immersing ourselves in the serene environment. The outdoor sauna was a wonderful touch, providing a relaxing way to end our days.
One of the highlights for us was the absence of TVs, which encouraged us to unplug and enjoy quiet reading sessions amidst the tranquil surroundings.
The location is also ideal, being close to the town of Bailey where we found numerous great restaurants. This A-frame house offers the perfect blend of seclusion and convenience. We highly recommend it for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy nature!

My wife and I stayed at The Hygge Chalet for our mini moon, and it was an absolutely delightful experience. We loved everything about this place. The decor was cute and cozy, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. Being surrounded by nature added an extra layer of tranquility that we cherished. The two decks were a highlight for us, especially the one with the hammocks where we could relax and take in the serene surroundings. The cabin was perfectly equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing mini honeymoon. We appreciated the fully stocked kitchen and the coffee maker, which made cooking dinner here a joy. The sauna was another wonderful feature that we thoroughly enjoyed. It added a touch of luxury to our stay and helped us unwind after a day of exploring. Overall, The Hygge Chalet exceeded our expectations in every way. We can't wait to return and make more memories here in the future. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a cozy, nature-filled retreat!

No exaggeration, this is one of the best places I have ever stayed. The chalet is tucked away in a quiet neighborhood in the mountains. It has everything you need during a weekend away - things that you might even forget while packing for a vacation! The owners of the property are quick to respond with questions you may have.
It's sooooo cozy and very clean. There's a fireplace in the living room that makes you just feel tranquil. I enjoyed cooking in the fully equipped kitchen and sat in the sauna many times to decompress. There's a private trail next to the property and snowshoeing shoes are at the chalet for guests to use (multiple pairs).
I can't express enough how much I loved it here. And I know for a fact I will return in the future. It's too pretty and lovely to not go again :)

Our 3rd visit to the Hygge Chalet was just as magical as the first. There was quite a lot of snow this visit, which was extra beautiful. We had a great hike up the hill and enjoyed tromping around in the snow. We did some sledding down the driveway and got our exercise pulling the kids back up! We visited the Shaggy Sheep for lunch on Saturday and drove up Guanella Pass, which was a fun outing. It had been a few years since we stopped at the waterfall and we had a great time rock hopping! We took full advantage of the sauna. The robes and slippers are such a cozy touch. We always love the curated playlist and even found a few new favorite tunes. As usual, everything we needed to cook our meals was available and easy to find.
Thank you for keeping such a special place going!
