The setting of the hotel was absolutely gorgeous. Our room window faced a beautiful mountain and the outdoor seating for breakfast and relaxing in the evening overlooked the mountains as well. It was very peaceful.
Very clean and the main building was so nice!! Very Swiss cabin chalet vibes. The balcony view was amazing. Very mountainous. Just be wary that if you walk from the train station, it’s a literal hike and would be extremely difficult with suitcases. Luckily I only had a backpack when I walked up.
Awesome experience staying at this hostel. The reception manager was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about the local area. He explained the amenities and the processes of the hostel very clearly. This place also provides guests with a Grindlewald Guest Card. Extremely professional staff, great food and awesome location.
Beautiful location with some incredible views and vistas. The rooms are comfortable but with hot weather outside the rooms do get quite warm and uncomfortable at night. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff super friendly. The front desk closes late morning to late afternoon which is a problem if your travel plans are delayed. The property is about a 10 minute bus ride or 20 minute walk from downtown which makes it nice a peaceful. The walk up is steep but not that bad (unless you have rolling luggage). Overall a wonderful experience!
Decent rooms with good facilities/amenities and great view, although it takes a fair amount of effort to get there (Roads in the area are quite steep, something to consider if you've got heavy luggage). Otherwise, enjoyed my stay there!
The hostel is not near to town but easily accessible by a bus (they'll give you a bus pass). The views are great though. Best to stock up food or have dinner in town before returning as the dinner (which you can purchase) isn't great.
I’m a 59 year old solo traveler that stayed here September 20-23, 2023. I basically had just one roomie that was super considerate and nice for the two nights. Bed was very comfortable and things were quiet during my stay. Breakfast was good and kept me solid throughout the day. Has great views from my balcony. All-in-all, I pleasant stay and I highly recommend.
This hostel was an ideal base for two nights for our activities in the Jungfrau region. The view from the terrace (and our room) was breathtaking, shower was powerful and hot (we booked a room with a private bathroom). It was a bit of a walk from town (steep but quite short) but very doable and the buses were handy (though be aware they finish early evening if you are in town for dinner/ drinks). Kettle and microwave also gave some flexibility with meals. Only downside was drinks were to be bought at reception which regularly was busy or unmanned (and when we finally found someone they had limited stock available), though if organised can pick this up in town.
Regarding the location, I can say that it’s not one of the most convenient one’s. But, worth just for the view. I would definitely recommend NOT to stay in a room with 6 people. The house is a bit old, so you keep hearing the floor cracking so it’s hard to sleep with so many people walking around the room. Other than that, the breakfast is good, staff friendly and place always clean.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
The Good:
Great breakfast and view. Large rooms
The Bad:
poorly lit area between buildings.
Lots of stairs involved to access some rooms and reception.
Property "landscaping " was wild and unkempt. Lots of weeds. No fans and windows barely open. It lots of gravelas hot. Tiny bathroom sinks. Could not fill water bottle in the one near my room. One operational shower for females between 2 floors. No frosted window in shower area. You might flash a bicyclist or two! All rooms are mixed.
The Ugly:
I did not know the bus stopped running at 5 pm.The climb up is at a 45 degree angle. Half the path is steep uneven coarsely graveled steps. Unlit at night. Getting a bus or taxi ($20) is highly recommended.
starting right off i wouldn’t call this a youth hostel. i was a little hesitant booking my first hostel experience but considering the price of every hotel in the region i decided to go with this place seeing as it said youth hostel, and i am a young solo traveller. however there were tons of people, i’d say majority, that were not youth at all. average age i saw looked in their mid 30s. so either limit who’s coming in to maintain the youth aspect of the property name, or just change the name! location in grindelwald was good, definitely the right choice to stay in this area instead of interlaken, lauterbrunnen, etc. the only downside is that the place is on the top of a big hill, and if you miss the last bus up at 6:30pm ish, you gotta make the 15 minute walk, and it was tough. bathroom & shower situation was good & clean, no complaints. the room had big locker/cubby things that had a key in the slot, but no way to actually lock them. overall rooms had a lack of charging outlets too, the room for four people i was in only had two outlets. breakfast was free & included which was a nice touch but it was nothing more than some bread & cheese, a bit of cereal, no hot food. towels could be rented for 3 francs with a 10 franc cash deposit. there was a communal fridge, microwave & kettle, no kitchen access. i went in early sept where it was still warm out, the room got very humid & hot without air con. overall enjoyed my stay though, the price is unmatched to others in the area.
Grindelwald is such a pretty town so this hostel is the most cost effective to stay in grindelwald. Clean and good selection at breakfast. Only disadvantage is that it is located high up on the hill so it’s a steep treck up walking but bus also goes there every half an hour
