Liked: Cleanliness, room comfort
When we arrived at 10 pm, the place was dark. Inside, it was pretty dark also. There is a nice interior courtyard, but because of the darkness, it was unwelcoming. The man at the desk told us not to go out and walk around at night, so we did not. I felt a bit trapped in our fairly small room.
The next morning, the breakfast was good, cooked just for us. Then, I was able to appreciate the beautiful setting.
I got room #3, the shower extra small, the water supply terrible. I stay there 5 days, on a shower time 2 days extremely hot water, and the other 3 days to cold water. Impossible take a dissent shower. During 3 days a hair on my pillow, the same cover on my bed for three days.
This hotel is quaint and feels like home. If you want stark modern hotels this is not for you. I want character
WiFi great
Hot water and shower pressure excellent
It feels like walking into the past to step into the lobby of the Posada. If you like that, I recommend it. Rooms are the size of old rooms which is fully adequate. Small bathroom, but has what is needed. Everything was clean. I will come again.
This seems to be more of a “house” that has been converted to accomate guests, than an actual hotel. Rooms are small and uncomfortable, with lots of mosquitos in the room. A “bed and breakfast” would be a more apt description of this location than a “hotel”, although breakfast, which is served here, is not included in the price. We booked 3 nights in advance based on the positive reviews, but after staying only one night, we decided we did not want to stay here again. We booked another hotel instead, and have since submitted multiple requests to be refunded for the remaining nights we didn’t use. The hotel has refused to refund our money. This hotel is several blocks from the main shopping and dining areas. For not much more money per night you can stay at the Royal Palace, which is where we ended up. It is a MUCH better hotel, located right in the heart of the all the activity, shopping and dining in the area.
They don't always answer their phone. No lobby. Had to wait in street using intercom, until they confirmed that I had a reservation, before they let me inside. Room was small and uncomfortable. Bedspreads were very rough and unpleasant, No television. No air conditioning. LOTS of mosquitos in room. Got bitten all night long. No shampoo. Only saw one employee the entire time I was there. I have stayed at about a dozen hotels in Guatemala City, ranging from budget hotels to luxury hotels, and this was by far the worst one. That said, this hotel is presently the cheapest one to offer a private room in Guatemala City (on Expedia). However, based on what we have paid elsewhere, I would say that this hotel is very overpriced for what is provided. For example, The Ajau Colonial Hotel is another budget hotel, just up the street from this one, that has better facilities, safe comfortable rooms, better amenities (including TV and shampoo), and no mosquitos in the room, for only $2 more per night than this one! This is a relatively new hotel on Expedia, and based on the number of positive reviews that it has already received, we decided to give it a try. We now feel cheated and mislead by these inaccurate reviews, and feel that these reviews may have been planted by the "staff". Unfortunately. we booked 3 nights in advance, sight unseen, based on those positive reviews, but due to their "no refund" policy, they are refusing to cancel our remaining nights or refund our money.
Lovely place with outstanding staff. The only negative issue is that the proximity of our room to the office and breakfast area made it difficult to sleep at times. I would request a different room on my next visit.
