Stayed here for two nights for a once in a lifetime ancestral visit. The room, pool and view of the pool from the room were the best part. The problem is that doesn’t make for the full experience, the staff does. The staff seems to be spilt into two kind, one group that is clueless, and the other that is trying hard to make up for the first group. The customer suffers in the middle of the two. Ms Nidhi from the first group single handedly ruined half day of my two days precious stay in Gwalior. She sent us on a witch hunt pretending to be the concierge, which the hotel actually doesn’t seem to have one. Gwalior, an important city of MP and very wonderful tourist destination, has yet to arrive into the 21st century in terms of BASIC tourist information and support. This hotel being the ONLY five-star hotel in the city should have made it a priority to have a well informed concierge. But sadly they don’t have it or have kept them hidden from the customer. So when a customer asks for a concierge, Ms Nidhi sends the customers on a witch hunt. Ms. Pooja tried to help, but the damage was done. Taj hotels are losing their reputation of being the brand of Indian hospitality. Seen many around the country to arrive at that conclusion. Alas!!!

Total chaos. I paid for two nights when I checked in, but was told that I had to check out after only one nights. After I provided proof that I had a reservation for two nights, I was allowed to stay for the second night. Then after the second night, I was first told that I had to check out and re-check in and change rooms. Then after I was packed and ready to check out/in, I was told that they were trying to allow me to stay in the same room. The facility is charmingly rundown. Some other issues. No hot water in the shower. The restaurant waitstaff "accused" me of being a freeloader. Etc.

Our 1 Night and 2 days stay at the UK was phenomenal. The staff was active and helpful. I want to shout out for Santosh (HouseKeeping), Executive Chef during our stay, Bheru Singh (Office Manager), and other staff who have been interactive, watchful, and supportive during our stay. The delicacies and ambience was amazing. I would take Taj UKP during my second visit to Gwalior.

Great Heritage hotel

Great heritage property but use some modern amenities like central air conditioning as the rooms are huge and split ACs can’t cool it enough plus it’s cold during winters. The hotel structure is confusing as I couldn’t figure out where the swimming pool was despite asking for directions. I will still recommend the hotel as it’s a Taj property with Taj standard of service.

Another pearl of Gwalior

Excellent stay, very friendly staff and super food. But above all authentic palace which brings you back in time; great gateway to discover the heritage of Gwalior and chill out in the pool in the afternoon. Stay one night but wished I had booked one more. Extra point Taj gets for the croissants and jams at breakfast. Best in India.
