"I was able to book for a very reasonable price right before the Spring Festival, which was a big plus. The immediate neighborhood has very little to offer, but cabs are easy to come by and a trip to the Pedestrian street costs 16-20 RMB (like $3.33 tops,) so that's not a huge deal. While the staff's overall level of English is not great, they are helpful in trying to figure out what you want.
