"My wife and I have stayed here probably 4 or 5 previous times. We always stay in the cabin because it has a bathroom and we don't have to walk to the bath house in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. It is a great priced campground and close to everything in Hatteras ya need. I always stay here for fishing trips out of hatteras marina. Will continue to stay here and I hope this place never sells out or ever closes because it's an amazing location. Also it's a super quiet area."

"We happened to be staying at The Shelter during the Nor'Easter. We were marooned and Deb allowed us to stay, free of charge, which was very kind. It has been so comfortable here. There was some flooding on the roads nearby from over wash from the sound. Neighbors with a truck took to us to the local Red and White for groceries. The highlights of the house for me were the fenced in yard for the dogs, the wonderful decks, the best napping sofa ever, and very comfortable bed. We enjoyed cooking here. I love all of the color in the house. For being under a state of emergency we have definitely felt "Sheltered" from the storm!"

"We arrived after dark and had just a little trouble finding the proper home. However, we did find it in about 10 minutes once on the right street. Such a cute little place, just the right size for the 3 of us. Beach access is perfect if you're able to do stairs. If that's a problem, we found a flat easy access just across from the Graveyard of the Atlantic exhibit.Loved the screen porch as the bugs were little outgoing. Location great and easy to other places nearby. We did love the outdoor shower as we collected a lot of sand from the ocean. Kitchen was well stocked and clean as were the bathrooms and bedrooms.All in all we had a wonderful stayand would definitely book again if in the area."

"We loved this vacation and our cottage! The cottage was reasonably priced, and it had everything we needed! The host was easy to communicate with as well. We like to try new locations and go on different adventures when we vacation as a family, but coming back to the Outer Banks and this cottage in particular is something we’d strongly consider, as we truly had such a great vacation!"

"The property is adorable. Great location, fabulously quiet neighborhood. House floors slant significantly (I looked like a drunken sailor walking around), be careful if you have balance/mobility issues. Indoor doors don't close properly/are very offset, so don't expect privacy from your housemates. Walls are paper thin, so it may be hard to sleep in bedroom if someone is watching tv in living room. Bring ear plugs! Many outlets and power strips did not work or were glitchy (bed stand light turns off randomly, for example). Maybe the fuses have been tripped? Dishes in cupboard are FILTHY, so wash before use. The primary bath tub has such bad drain issues, daughter had to shower in the master bath. Main bath didnt drain even overnight! Couldn't find outdoor trash bin and it took 3 attempts and 48 hours to reach the host about it. Calling seems best for any issues. Staff are helpful once reached. The door to laundry is impossible to lock. Bring patience! Overall, the house is pretty clean. My allergies were not terrible there, which is a good clean-detector. AC cools home well. Delightful home. Better than I expected for frequently-visited beach house. View is spectacular. Yard is large. Can't drop kayak off house dock into water because there is a large drop to water line and no ladder. So, put in across the canal, near the bridge. Parking at house accommodated our 2 cars easily. We will DEFINITELY come back. Great vacation!"
