The Lion’s Den Hotel is the stop for a well-earned beer after completing the Bloomfield Track, but even worth a drive out from Cooktown. The pub opened in 1875 and stayed in the same family for nearly 90 years. It’s covered in hand-written messages, which is a tradition going back decades when the workers at the nearby mines would give their wages to the hotel and then keep track of how much they’d spent on the walls of the bar. The interior is adorned with memorabilia and there’s a small museum too. Definitely worth a look.

Black Mountain National Park lies about 25 kilometres southwest of Cooktown in #FarNorthQueensland, #Australia. The park is significant for its granite boulders formed from magma 250 million years ago and also the cultural landscape to Australian Aboriginals, known as 'place of spear'.
