Get ready for an elevated experience at SandyLand! This second-story cabin takes you up high--the whole space feels like a loft--and it’s optimized for an amazing view of Bark Bay on Lake Superior. It’s the perfect hangout spot, with one bedroom and tons of common space, plus a big yard for outdoor fun. SandyLand is also a great home base for exploring the South Shore, from the sea caves in Cornucopia to the beaches in Port Wing.
Your host runs Bark Point Ventures, a vacation rental management & concierge company that specializes in properties on Lake Superior's South Shore. We're nearby and we're always available to assist our guests. Our passion is ensuring guests experience the magic of the South Shore--what we feel is one of the most amazing places in the world.
SandyLand is on Bark Point, a spit of land that extends several miles out into Lake Superior. The point gives some shelter to Bark Bay, which is the gorgeous bit of water that the cabin faces. For a closer look at the bay, you can walk a little farther down Bark Point Road and check out the town boat landing. And to see the open water of Lake Superior there’s no better spot than Herbster Beach, where you’ll find bathrooms and a playground and a picnic pavilion.
The other South Shore towns, Port Wing to the west and Cornucopia to the east, are both close by, both with their own beaches. Port Wing has an awesome coffee shop that roasts its own beans (we stock them in the house) and a great little convenience store with a fish counter. Cornucopia (or ‘Corny' as the locals call it) has an excellent coffee shop, a general store, and a few restaurants and shops. Bayfield is close by, too, about 45 minutes’ drive: perfect to check out the attractions over there then return to your South Shore oasis for another Superior sunset. Ashland, where you’ll find more stores and amenities, is just under an hour away. Duluth and Superior are a little over an hour to the west.
The sun pours through the windows at SandyLand. The cabin is on the second story (it sits above a garage space), so when you arrive, the first thing you’ll do is head up the stairs and watch the common space open up around you. You’re under a sloped ceiling, and it feels like the entire cabin is a treehouse, hidden up in the trees. With its second-story perch and double sliding glass doors, plus a full-length deck, SandyLand is made for the spectacular view of Bark Bay on Lake Superior. Feel free to drop everything and go check it out!
The cabin has an open plan layout that maximizes hangout space for young and old, with a comfy sofa facing the lake and a gas stove to add a bit of het (and cozy vibes) on a chilly night. You'll love the TV nook, with its own sofa and a big smart screen: it’s perfect for movie nights. There's also a magical pull-out sofa in the living room: it unfolds and inflates with a touch of a button! I know, you read "inflatable mattress" and think "Yuck," but trust us: this is the comfiest sofa bed we've ever experienced!
You’ll love the kitchen! It’s clean and bright and spacious. There’a a kitchen island with bar seating for two, and a full-size refrigerator and stove. The kitchen window even has its own view of the lake.
The primary bedroom is fully enclosed and private, but it shares the sloped ceiling with the rest of the cabin, for that perfect Northwoods sleeping loft vibe. It’s got a comfy queen bed and a dreamy view of evergreens out the window.
The bathroom is clean and spacious, with a corner shower and a window with a nice (and private) view.
There's outdoor fun to be had, too: a full-length deck to take in the view of the water, plus a big yard for games and hangouts under the stars.
Due to the lack of public transportation and the distance between towns, a car is pretty much essential. But, on the plus side, traffic is not a concept we have up here!
