The George Hotel

"Lovely hotel, beautiful location by river, handy for local places of interest.Hadrians wall, lots of great walks, lovely villages nearby. Room good, clean and spacious, food excellent at breakfast and in restaurant. Staff, particularly on reception were very helpful. Highly recommend this hotel, and would love to stay again in future."

"Staff were amazing,extremely helpful and friendly. Rooms spacious and comfortable. Food was good, Great breakfast and good choice in restaurant if you are eating there in the evening. Only slight problem was poor phone signal and hotel WiFi only worked in the car park."

"An enjoyable and relaxed stay. Old property with some interesting rustic features, but the absence of any drawer storage in the room was a problem. Good breakfast. Evenig meal menu was limited, not offering a great choice of normal English fare for an older couple."

"The bedroom was excellent,clean well furnished and appointed. The only small criticism was that there was a lack of comfortable space away from the restaurant space and bar but as we were only staying one night this didn’t matter too much. The breakfast was excellent and the bar food,whereas it was well prepared, was a little limited in choice. We would however stay again."
Battlesteads Hotel

"We really enjoyed our stay for two nights at Battlesteads. Two things really stood out - the food was excellent (except chips - a minor thing), and the staff were consistently friendly, helpful, and welcoming without being overbearing. The last point, about how all staff were nice to interact with, was a major selling point and is why we will return. A special shout out to Dan ("Dan, Dan, the beverage man") for being so helpful and recommending Flyte - a top tip! Ad Gefrin sold two bottles to us as a result! Such a pleasant time, great food, and drink, and an impressive walking guide (which we used) and an observatory on the door step!"

"Don’t bring a cat - there’s no room to swing it in the bedroom. And the TV was comically small. That being said, it was clean and tidy and the food excellent. Staff also very friendly."
