Track to barn The track curves round behind a pond in the trees on the right. There was a name on the gate, so the barn may be converted, or about to be so. High Hurstwood is in the distance.

Hermitage Rocks A grey sandstone rock outcrop near High Hurstwood now part of someone's back garden. The rocks once provided shelter to Mesolithic hunting parties with worked flint discovered dating back to around 6000BC. The caves which provided shelter for the hunting party was also home to a medieval hermit who allegedly baptised people in a nearby spring. Beyond the Reformation it appears the cave was used as a place of quarantine for those with infectious diseases before becoming a popular 18th century tourist destination. The rocks are on private land belonging to The Hermitage which can just be seen to the extreme left of the shot, however, a footpath that runs from Fowley Lane to Hurstwood Wood cuts through the bottom of the land which has been turned into paddocks.
