Rustic lakeside cabin was perfect for our family. Greg was so great, letting us use all of the kayaks and paddleboards. We felt very welcome and comfortable. Of course the house isnt absolutely perfect, but for the price and location- you really cant beat it. Our family was able to explore Acadia, hike in Dedham, go to Bangor and still fish non stop in Phillips Lake.
We had the same issues as another reviewer. The overwhelming odor of mildew resulted in us leaving after one night. The owner denied a smell when we told him about it and said that we were first to complain. The odor is particularly bad in the bedrooms. Anyone who has allergy issues should note. Carpets and linens were moist from the humidity. Water stains in the ceiling. There were exposed electrical boxes. Table lamps didn’t work. The water supply comes from the lake and is not cleaned so you need to bring your own bottled water. Host provides 2 gallons. This should be mentioned on the description so people can prepare. Lots of areas needed cleaning. Steep access to the water. The deck was nice and the lake was pleasant.
My son and I had a wonderful week here. The lake is beautiful, and we used the cabin’s kayaks, canoe, and paddle boards to explore all of the coves. It’s close to Bar Harbor and great hiking.
We enjoyed the quiet location on the lake. Close drive to grocery and Jones Fish and Lobster store. Enjoyed exploring Bangor, Bar Harbor, and hiking in Acadia National Park!
We really enjoyed the lake and the dock. Greg was very responsive and excellent to communicate with. It was about an hour to drive to Acadia, but was a very quiet place to be.
Beautiful property. The cabin it self could have been a bit cleaner. Especially the bathroom. Medicine cabinet is broken. Should be updated (fixed)

Peaceful week in Maine
Just returned from a week at this rental. The cottage was pretty much as advertised. Nothing fancy but clean and comfortable. Good location and the owners are great to work with. One of the most relaxing vacations ever. Quiet on the lake but close enought to enjoy Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Highlight of week: seeing the bald eagle (each day) while out canoeing on the lake. Worried our teenaged boys might be bored but they had a great time, too!
Phillips lake is beautiful and the topography of the land the cabin sits on is gorgeous - large rocks, a cute little beach area for wading, and some flat areas to sit and enjoy the outdoors (besides the spacious deck). If you stay, make sure to canoe/kayak the lake. There are several islands that are wonderful to explore. Our week started with some stormy weather so we enjoyed the view with the ample windows to look out over the lake. The rest of the week was Chamber of Commerce weather, so sitting on the deck or dock was so relaxing. Greg was very responsive to the one question we had (location of a paddle). My wife enjoyed morning walks since the streets wind around the lake with postcard views.
When we got to the property we were greeted by Greg. The house is on a beautiful lake and you have a gorgeous view from the living room. Just beware, the water source for the house is the lake, so all water to do dishes must be purchased (some is bought by Greg at the beginning of your stay) and you must purchase water for drinking. There is no AC which was not an issue except one day that it was unusually hot in the upper 90s. Otherwise it was nice and cool in the house with the windows. The is no WiFi just FYI. I am a college student and cell phone service is very spotty so that can be tricky in the area. We enjoyed our stay. It was great that Greg had kayaks, a canoe, and paddle boards available to use on the lake. Acadia is about an hours drive which is where we spent most of our time. We had a great time. Greg was very responsive whenever we messaged him and was very friendly when we saw him. We enjoyed our stay.

Great location, house needs TLC
Our family of 4 has stayed on Phillips Lake in the past and it's a beautiful spot! We stayed in a similar camp - small and rustic and we appreciate the charm of old camps. That said, this home is in need of some updating. We left after one day (giving up 7 days rental), opting to rent the place next door for below reasons. The owner will of course dispute all of these comments and we didn't leave on great terms so renters I suggest reading all reviews.
1. There was a strong odor of mildew and wet dog smell that we could not eliminate even with opening the windows and doors. Note another review further down that mentioned similar complaint.
2. The cushions on the wicker furniture were nearly void of filling. We relayed this to the owner and he said he has since fixed this problem.
3. The carpets were all damp making it uncomfortable to walk around. Owner said this was due to carpet cleaning that hadn't dried.
4. Window screens were loaded with cobwebs and bugs and seemingly hadn't been cleaned in months.
5. The bed sheets, while hopefully laundered, were stained in many places. And the pillows are old and yellowed.
I think all of the above could have been manageable were it not for the smell.
I have stayed in more than 30 rentals like this, and this is the first time we have had such an experience so I don't write this lightly.
That said, Greg is communicative and helpful host and he responded to our feedback on his property in a gracious manner.
Had a lovely time. Lake is clean and the view is just beautiful from the house. Bed was comfortable and our hosts were friendly and available for anything. No internet so had to use a mobile hotspot. Dish TV worked well. Our dogs enjoyed the lake as much as we did. Kayaks and paddle boards were available to use whenever we felt like going. We had a enjoyable and relaxing vacation with our 2 dogs.
We had a wonderful stay in this lake house located just under an hour outside Bar Harbor. We spent several days of our vacation swimming in the lake from the dock, fishing, & exploring the lake’s islands by canoe & kayak. Greg was a wonderful host and very attentive to our needs. Thanks for a fantastic stay!
The peace and tranquillity of this Maine camp, especially listening to the loons every evening, was exactly what we needed. The deck was a spacious gathering point with plenty of trees for shade. We enjoyed swimming and paddle boarding from the dock. We hope to return again next summer.
Great, rustic accommodations. Laundry in the basement was a bonus. Wonderful owners live right next door, very helpful with local info. A canoe and several kayaks to choose from, with a dock at your back door. Peaceful and pet-friendly; our dog also had a great vacation.
