Welcome to The Hornet’s Nest! Boasting a large living space, deck, two kayaks for guests to use, and a private fenced-in area under the home for your enjoyment - this is the perfect getaway for entertaining one or more families!

Bring your paddleboard, kayak, or jet ski and launch just a few steps away, or walk four minutes to the shore! Cruise the island by bike, or spend the day hunting shark teeth on our gorgeous beach. After a fun day in the sand, the outdoor shower is a hit. Before heading inside, be sure to indulge in some friendly outdoor competition with cornhole or ladder toss.

Enjoy amazing sunset or canal views and drink your coffee, via Keurig or drip, on the generous screened deck. With plenty of seating and a spacious outdoor dining table right off the main living space, the options are endless. Not to mention the private, open-air space under the house, complete with multiple couches, a high-top table, a grill, and outdoor games. Find everything you need to prepare delicious meals in the renovated kitchen, outfitted with new appliances. The large kitchen island is perfect for sharing drinks, cooking, and entertaining. Comfort awaits in the primary suite, which features a private bathroom updated with a walk-in shower. One of the bedrooms also includes a second TV to watch as you wind down. Guests in our home enjoy new, quality mattresses for ultimate comfort and relaxation.

No need to get in a car each time you’d like to venture out. Our home is walkable to plenty of restaurants, bars, parks, and convenience stores. Surf City Ocean Pier and Soundside Park are within three miles and offer sunbathing amidst breathtaking ocean views. Our favorite coffee and donut shops are just around the corner at Surf City Circle.

Our decade-long journey as a USMC family took flight in the F-18 fighter jet, and as you arrive at The Hornet’s Nest, we’re confident you’ll cherish our home as much as we have, appreciating the love and care we’ve poured into it over the years.

If you are bringing a dog on your trip, the pet fee is already included in your quote when selecting ‘Yes’ to pets. If you would like to add more dogs, please contact us. The pet fee is per stay and ranges between $150 and $200, depending on the bedroom count, and will apply for each additional dog.

Great place!

It was beautiful inside and well maintained. A short walk to the beach and close to the bay if you like to fish or kayak. We loved it there so much and would come back for years to come!

The location was close to the beach, and not right in the busy city center. Spacious for our large group of 7 and loved the screen porch and fencing for our furry eighth family member!

I loved this house!

From the minute I walked in I felt right at home. I loved the open layout so we all had plenty of room to socialize. I hadn’t seen my North Carolina family in 6 years. It was so nice and peaceful and everyone loved the accommodations. I would love to come back again next year. Thank you to the owners for offering such a lovely beach house. Also the beach was just a short walk from the house and it was just beautiful!❤️

Perfect for dog owners and beach lovers!

We stayed here with our 2 dogs and 2 teen boys. This house was perfect! The dogs were always able to go in and out and be safe with the fence. We spent our days walking to the beach and hanging out on the porch/deck. The house had super comfy beds and everything was immaculate. We didn't want to leave to return to NJ! I would book again.

Great house! The owners have done a great job making this a nice & comfortable rental. Our family enjoyed our time there. We never located the baby gates that were listed as available. The photos state the walk to the beach was 4 minutes, it was in fact about an 8 minute walk.

Great Place

This is by far one of the best homes I’ve stayed in. The house was beautiful, well appointed, and SO clean! Having the beach chairs and toys for the kids was an added bonus. If we had been there longer, I would have bought life jackets to take advantage of using the kayaks. Thank you for opening your home to us. We also thought 8th St was special, the neighbors were all so nice. I hope to be able to come back

Guaranteed Return!

Our stay at The Hornets Nest was truly the best short-term rental experience we've ever had!! It perfectly accommodated our group of six adults and two kids, and there was still a whole room with two bunk beds unused. We cooked most of our meals in the well-equipped kitchen, which had everything we needed, including grill utensils. The grill was clean and worked exceptionally well. All bedrooms were spacious and incredibly comfortable, with the king-size memory foam mattress in the master being especially comfortable. The fenced-in area allowed the kids to play freely downstairs, and we even found extra toddler toys and books to use during our stay. The extra beach chairs and toys made our short walk to the ocean convenient, and the kayaks provided a calming canal ride. The comfortable deck furniture allowed us to enjoy a great view of the sunset. The only downside was that the cornhole set was broken, as none of our bags went into the hole. Nonetheless, we will definitely be coming back if it's available!
