Rustic & Cozy Island Original Cottage on the Beach- Bamboo Apts. C2

Our five unit property was featured in the January/February 2020 issue of Southern Living, and we are honored and thrilled!

Welcome to our Cottage! This listing is the north side of the duplex. If you are looking for a simple, quiet, stress-free place to enjoy the beach, this is it. It's not a fancy condo-- no long hallways, distant parking, elevators, or crowds. Best of all, the cottage is beachfront, so there are no streets to cross-- just a sandy walk through the dunes. The Cottage is a duplex, and this listing is for the smaller side. VRBO #77482 will show you the larger side. The two sides share a screened porch facing the beach.

The cottage was constructed in 1916 or so, as a caretaker's home for a larger house which is now gone. It has been carefully maintained and updated, but has retained the charm of a bygone era.

The interior walls are heart pine, and so are the floors, refinished by hand. Furnishings have been chosen for comfort-- a rattan recliner and matching pillow top queen size sleeper sofa in the living room, dining table for two, and king size bed in the bedroom.

It's shaded by ancient Australian pine trees and has a comfortable shared screened porch for a front-row view of the sunsets and stars. With the windows open at night, you can hear the surf!

Walk directly out the screen porch door, and down to the beach--no streets to cross. Or, sit out on the patio and enjoy your coffee and newspaper, or cocktails. Our guests tell us that the best part of the patio area, (besides the view) is it's size-- plenty of room for spreading out.

We are located a block away from the Cafe on the Beach, convenient for all-you-can-eat pancake breakfasts, quick lunches, and relaxing dinners. The beach-front playground is a block and a half away. Take the free trolley and see the rest of the island.

Girls Getaway

Three generations to celebrate family member birthday. The Bamboo Apartments were a perfect place for us to stay - relaxing, beautiful beach view, and all the comforts of home. Alica is a gracious hostess. We will be back!

Beachside gem

We loved the historical feel of the cottage and proximity to the beach. It was a relaxing, rejuvenating visit and we appreciated the hospitality basket upon our arrival. We have found most VRBO’s do not offer this simple but much appreciated touch. On top of everything, the owner, Alice, is a delight

Lovely Stay!

This place is in the perfect location for a wonderful beach get away. Steps from the beach with breathtaking sunrise walks and sunset shows. The beach chairs and umbrella were a nice perk as well. The space was cozy, comfortable, and the air condtioner cold! Alice is a fantastic communicator and was prompt to answer all my questions. Close to the grocery store and restaurants. 10/10 would stay here again. My only complaint is that I did not stay long enough.

Great Stay

Thanks to all of the prior raters who gave this property such a good reputation. It’s very clean, is well maintained, has beautiful grounds, is only steps to the beach, is centrally located, has a grocery within walking distance…. Too many good things to list. We were fortunate enough to meet our host and she’s just the most pleasant and likable person. Great stay all around!!

Relaxing

This was one of the most relaxing vacations we have ever had. If you are wanting to relax and enjoy the beach this is the place for you. Old Florida is the vibe with everything you would need for two! Very clean, bed was comfortable, well supplied for us to get away and reset before the new year.

Nirvana on the beach

Old Florida Charm

My sister and I consider ourselves very fortunate to have stayed in this charming Cottage (C2 Sleeps 2) which is a step back in time to old Florida. Screen porch to sit and relax, peaceful grounds nestled in a private yard that overlooks the gorgeous beach. Special touches such as a Wine & Cracker basket and a cute little Welcome Sign with our names greeted us on our arrival. Convenient location to the Free Trolly ride to see everything the island has to offer. We both look forward to a return visit!

Great Place

Great place. It's small but that didn't bother us. It's older however it's clean and well kept. It was perfect for two of us. It's for two people. Not family size. If you need the biggest, newest, and best then this isn't for you. Private beach access via a small path. Close to the public beach, Skinny's, and shopping. Could have gotten by all week without a car. Locked ourselves out once and owner was there in 5 minutes to let us in. She's very nice. We would stay again.

Location, location, location!

Owner is very easy to communicate with. Check and procedure is very easy. Cottage 2 is very vintage as described and pictured. This cottage brought me back to my childhood. It was exactly as expected. Everything was provided that was needed. The location just couldn’t be beat! Right on the beach with our own tables, chairs, grills , etc provided. It is right next to the facilities at the public beach, within .25 mile to Publix and CVS. When our internet was not working well the owner made a special trip to help resolve the issue. Guaranteed you will enjoy this step back in time and the location!

Unique and tiny

This is truly a blast from the past! Everything was clean and Alice was very welcoming, but just be prepared for a very small place with minimal kitchen space and utensils/equipment. Also, if someone is staying next door in the duplex you can hear them talking. But the location can not be better!
