Finest Retreats - Hazel Rose Cottage

Discover the beautifully renovated two-bedroom Hazel Rose Cottage, a coach house above the garaging of Longlands Farmhouse, set in the tranquil and unique surroundings of Longlands Lakes. This magical, secluded location is tucked away on a private island, surrounded by the lakes and waterways of the Cambridgeshire Fens, offering an idyllic retreat for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

The island lodge is encircled by serene lakes stocked with fish, ensuring a peaceful and secluded atmosphere. Guests can explore the lakes at their leisure, with access to walk around the waters anytime they wish. For those with an adventurous side, you are welcome to bring your own kayaks and canoes or take advantage of the fishing services available (from summer 2025 onwards).

One of the most unique aspects is the experience of driving over the private bridge to reach your island haven – a truly memorable arrival. The island lodge occupies the first floor above a garage, with a spacious, open-plan living area comprising a kitchenette, lounge, and dining space. The kitchenette is equipped with a microwave, air fryer, kettle, fridge, and toaster for your convenience. Both bedrooms are generously sized one king-size and one double, ensuring a comfortable stay for all guests. The main bathroom features a large shower, basin, and WC, plus there is an additional WC for extra convenience.

With a large smart TV, comfortable corner sofa seating, Wi-Fi, and ample parking, the property offers all the comforts of home. A handy storage area is available for luggage on the ground floor, and guests should note steps are required to access the apartment on the first floor.

Guests will share the main island with the house and its resident but will have sole and full access to the rest of the lakes. Guests are welcome to explore and enjoy picnics around the lakes. Please note that access to the property requires driving through a yard to get around the house.

What an amazing place

This is a lovely place and the surroundings are beautiful. On a little island in the middle of nowhere, loads of wildlife to enjoy, so peaceful and the apartment is spacious and comfortable. The owners are really nice people and very helpful. Highly recommended for a stress free getaway. The only improvements would be the addition of a cooker/hob and a washing machine. There is a microwave and airfryer but we found this limiting as not used to this type of cooking.

Outstanding - what an absolute delight this place is.

What an absolute delight this place is. The setting of the accommodation in the middle of the lakes and trees with all its wildlife is wonderful. Oscar and his father were lovely and very interesting people, who looked after us very well. Set amongst lakes and trees in an island of wildness amongst the agricultural landscape of the Cambridgeshire fens. There are paths to walk around and enjoy real tranquility. We were lucky to be there in spring with baby ducks, goslings and moorhens and many birds singing and deer and rabbits frolicking about, but the setting would be lovely any time of year. Oscar met us and made us very welcome and he and his father were around whenever we needed to ask anything. Lovely people to chat to and hear the amazing history of the place. Very clean and well looked after. The accommodation is a really well done conversion of the upper floor of a garage block. It is really nice and unusual and spacious. The bedrooms are a good size and the open plan living area very comfortable. The one thing I would recommend for the place would be to add a cooker with a hob to cook on. Whilst we mastered cooking meals with the air fryer and microwave, we would have preferred to e.g. boil our vegetables in a pan. Maybe we should just get with the times as we managed easily enough, but it is the one thing we didn't find perfect. One of our reasons for booking was the relatively low cost (along with it was just where we wanted to be), but we were amazed at the value of the place once we got there.
