Great location, walking distance to train station & the city center plus the restaurants, Anar,Zizzi, good breakfast options, lots of tours to Highlands and more.
The room was well maintained, and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and the food down stairs quite good with a lovely bar area. People with disabilities should know it is a historic old building and did not have an elevator, but aside from that a perfect stay.
The hotel itself is very old and the room reflects this. It is very small and cramped. The floor is sloped and there is very little sound proofing between the rooms. It is above the pub and you have steep stairs to climb without a lift. All of this would be fine except for the price does not reflect it. The breakfast was nice and the staff where friendly.
Great location and the restaurant food was great. Be advised that you have to bring bags up a few steps because there is no elevator. The owner was wonderful and gave us great recommendations for dining and entertainment.
There weren't any amenities, but I knew that. Wanted a historic property & 1793 is about as historic as it gets! Food in the restaurant was really good as well
Location couldn’t have been better, room was comfortable and clean. A few things seemed like they needed some attention (coffee maker didn’t work, no anti-slip shower mat, keys were kind of annoying) but those were very minor and overall it was great. I’d recommend it for anyone staying in Inverness.
Perfect base for sightseeing and shopping..spoiled for choice of places to eat and drink..nearby multi storey car park ,reasonably priced,as no parking at the hotel..
I would rate my stay a 15/10. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The location was perfect for most attractions. I would definitely stay there again or recommend to a friend.
This historic building is in the perfect location. The dining area is remodeled and absolutely beautiful. Food is really good. The rooms are very nice as well. Just remember there’s no lifts to rooms as it’s a historic building. The location is so close to rail and bus stations. The staff is super nice and very helpful with any needs you might have. Would highly recommend staying here.
The room was spotless and the staff was amazing. The food there is incredible as well. Please make a note that there is not an elevator so if you have any issues carrying your suitcases up a flight upstairs or two, you may want to reconsider. Would definitely stay there again!

Excellent hotel with friendly staff!
The building is old so you will hear when people walk in their rooms and innthe corridors.

Property was clean and bed was comfortable. Access was good. Breakfast option was nice with both included continental breakfast and hot options for a fee.
There was a strange odor from the bathroom area but it was clean, fully usable. Bed was comfortable but room was tight for two people.
We enjoyed the Black Friar. Hotel was conveniently located and the staff was very helpful. Room was clean and sized nicely. We could walk to many restaurants and sights in the area. Loved our stay.
Great family room close to train station and short walk to the river and restaurants.

They let us check-in early, offering us complimentary snacks and breakfast during our stay. The room was beautiful and cozy and every clean—would 100% recommend staying above this pub.
My husband really liked this hotel because it was quite spacious in the room and the bathroom and there was a laundry facility across the street and we badly needed to do a wash halfway through our Scotland Ireland two week trip.
I thought the hotel was fine but nothing special and while the room seemed clean the carpets were worn and stained in some spots. No oat milk for my afternoon tea which is the first time a hotel hasn’t provided a dairy milk alternative.
The weirdest part for me was the placement of one of the twin beds (I think I opted for two twins rather than a double bed) - my bed has its chargers behind my pillow and I bumped my head on the “side” lamp which was literally above my head (see photo) - clearly the room was designed for a double or queen bed!
Also the parking situation was not very convenient and not included in my $450 hotel stay fee - about 2.5 blocks away at a public garage. And there was nowhere to pull up at the hotel on the busy street to unload and load our luggage. And three keys to get into the hotel, into the guest room area, and into your room (a big piece of wood attached to the keys / not so easy to put in your pocket!)
I’d find somewhere else to stay next time I’m in Inverness for all these minor inconveniences that added up in my book.
