Lakefront Retreat 4BR/2BA, Private Dock and Lake Access, RV Hookup, Great Views!

PLEASE NOTE: New Pots and Pans and New Appliances in 2023 - SEE NEW PHOTOS!

Lakefront Retreat, looking out on the Island Park Reservoir with direct lake access, is a great home base for visiting Yellowstone Park (only 32 miles from the west entrance) while also enjoying a lake vacation!! It is located on Bills Island, with your own dock and boat slip. You can rent boats, ATVs, snowmobiles, etc. nearby. You have direct access to the ATV Trail System! We offer FREE WIFI. Swimming off the dock, fishing, boating, hiking, biking, sunsets; plus day-trips to Mesa Falls, Harriman State Park, Grand Teton Park and more!

Lakefront Retreat is located in the private gated community of Bills Island on the shore of the Island Park Reservoir. The Island Park Reservoir was created many years ago by a dam along the Henry's Fork of the Snake River, a world renowned trout fishing river. Swim and fish right off our private dock. Use our boat slip for your own boat or one of the many kinds of watercraft that can be rented only 1/4 mile away. They also rent bicycles, and a water trampoline that can be delivered right to the cabin waterfront. You can also rent ATV's, snowmobiles, and other equipment there. [You can ride ATV's (and snowmobiles in winter) directly onto the local trail system that connects for hundreds of miles and goes all the way to the border of Yellowstone Park!]
We provide the following items at the house: one paddle board, and two children's kayaks with life jackets. Additionally, there are two sets of snorkeling gear. There is always deep water in the reservoir right behind this cabin, even in years when water levels may be reduced for the use of farmers downstream.
Our west-facing deck borders the water and connects to a floating walkway to the dock and boat slip. The deck is a great place to enjoy beautiful sunsets as you relax and discuss all the amazing possibilities for the days to come.
The west entrance of Yellowstone Park is only 32 miles away. Horseback riding, hiking, fishing, and cross-country skiing are available in nearby Harriman State Park. Amazing and powerful Mesa Falls is also a short trip away. An all-day trip to visit Grand Teton National Park is also possible from this home.
This 1700 sq.ft. cabin has been renovated several times, the most recent renovation being the addition of the second bathroom. You'll love the lodge pole features, which add to the rustic charm. It has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and sleeps up to 10 people: there are three queen size beds, two double beds (double/twin bunk bed with a double trundle), plus a queen size air mattress and a twin futon for the floor. There is also a queen sleeper couch in the great room. (All bedding, linens and towels are provided.) This property also offers a 35 amp RV hookup at the side of our driveway for $50/night plus tax, which would enable you to bring up to six more people who sleep in the RV. (Potable water and a dump station are provided at our RV hookup.) The two-car garage is also available for your use.
The living room features a wall of windows with views of the lake in the northwest/west direction, enabling you to enjoy breathtaking summer sunsets and also keep an eye on the kids playing outside. You'll find the kitchen well equipped with modern appliances and everything you need to cook, prepare and serve your meals. This cabin has Chromecast TV (watch from any device) and a DirecTV satellite subscription. Washer and dryer are also provided for your use.
There is a propane fire table in the side yard of the cabin.

Winter at Lakefront Retreat:
If you plan on staying at Lakefront Retreat anytime between between mid-October and mid-May there is usually some degree of snow throughout that period. You could experience this Winter wonderland at its peak between mid-December and the end of March. During the peak of winter, we get 4 to 7 feet of snow in Island Park staying on the ground, and getting mounded high by snow plows on the roadsides. The winter time is truly a beautiful thing! Come prepared with serious snow clothes and snow boots to stay warm and dry. Inside, stay cozy by our propane fireplace! (The cabin also has a good heating system throughout.) Due to all this snow, Island Park is a popular destination for plenty of winter activities including snow shoeing and cross-country skiing at Harriman State Park, and snowmobiling on the 500 miles of groomed trails throughout Island Park and West Yellowstone. In fact, you can snowmobile on snow-packed roads directly from this cabin to connect with the official trail system at our Bill’s Island security gate area. Free maps of the entire trail system are available at gas stations throughout Island Park. You can rent snowmobiles locally or bring your own. There is space to park your vehicles and trailers at the cabin. The west entrance of Yellowstone Park is closed to normal vehicles from mid-November to mid-April, but you can book guided snowmobile and snow coach adventures that take you inside Yellowstone Park, going all the way to Old Faithful geyser, which erupts year-round. (Book trips early. Space is limited.) Ice fishing, on the Island Park Reservoir and Henry’s Lake, is also popular! (Be sure that the lakes are frozen solid and proceed with caution. Snowmobiling on the lakes is illegal and can be dangerous.) In December/January you can enjoy the local Winterfest that includes horse drawn sleigh rides and fireworks, among many other family activities, happening at various times and locations in Island Park every year. (Check with the Island Park Chamber of Commerce for a Winterfest schedule.)

Please note: For safety reasons, due to the large amount of snow, there is no access to two of the side doors of the cabin during winter. You’ll have access to the overhead garage door, the personnel door next to it, and the sliding glass door of the house only. Warning: Be aware of the potential for heavy snow sliding off the garage roof, especially when things warm up above freezing. This is dangerous! Park your vehicles at a safe distance from any roof slopes and don’t venture below them on the ground. Due to the thick ice on the Island Park Reservoir, the floating walkway from the deck to the dock is removed in winter. These are reconnected when the ice has melted fully, usually some time in May.
We consider April our mud season due to melting snow. Watch out for potholes on dirt roads at that time of year. The roads get repaired when things dry out.

If you love outdoor recreation and like a safe community where children can have fun, then you'll be sure to enjoy quality family time at Lakefront Retreat!

This was a great spot for our family gathering. The lakeside seating area was so nice and there was plenty of seating areas around the property for those who wanted sun or shade. The view from the cabin is lovely!

Every thing we needed was there. Swimming and paddling boat right off the dock was so convenient with the little ones. Great place to come home to after a day at the park. Totally enjoyed our stay.

We loved staying at the Lakefront Retreat. The home itself is very spacious and feels like a week at summer camp. The views from the dock are beautiful and the kayaks were a nice touch. We came to explore Yellowstone so were out during the day but wished we had more time by the lake and a few more days. We would definitely recommend to anyone travelling this way.

Cabin was as expected. Older but still very well kept. The over water patio/dock set up was worth every penny. Great place to sit out for dinner and enjoy!

This property is right on the lake with a great view. We came to fish the area as this is proxemic to many good streams. The cabin itself is quaint and well equipped for this type of activity. We had an early snowstorm for our visit, would like to see everything when the dock is in. This is a good place for sportsmen.

The view of the lake and sunsets are amazing. The house is older and in need of some updating. It has a spacious living area and kitchen. Bedrooms are small but ok. Newer towels would be welcomed. Since there were 6 of us, it was inconvenient not to have a bathroom upstairs. Stairs are also steep and have to be careful not to hit head when going up and down.It would be a fun summer lake house to rent. Beautiful lake.

This is our second time staying at this property and it didn’t disappoint. The views are amazing. Island park is a dream! The property is exactly as described. It fit our large family nicely. The cabin is a little older and a bit quirky, but it is very functional. The property manager was great to communicate with and the check in process is very easy. Can’t wait to get back up there!

Loved this place, my Family all agreed WE WILL BE BACK! Our roots go very deep in Island Park, say 125 years. This area is where we all spent our Childhood. We had a Summer Home on Taghee Row across from Macks Inn, but unfortunately we lost it due to a forced sale. So now we all have a place to come back to that is close to where we all grew up for our Summer Vacation. Thank you for sharing it.

My granddaughter got a toothpick stuck in her barefoot & I found a dime on the floor which led me to believe that it had not been thoroughly vacuumed? Wall of windows was a fabulous view but windows were dirty & we couldn't find window cleaner. The kayak had a hole in it. The paddle board was waterlogged. I loved the notes everywhere but that also made me afraid I'd be charged for damage that we had not created. My daughters discovered other things needing attention but I'm not sure what they were. I think I've listed the important items. We very much enjoyed the fire pit, deck & dock. The roominess of the place was great. The 2 bathrooms were very much appreciated. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking, eating & serving dishes & utensils. The stove, fridge & microwave were wonderful, along with the island & dining table. Livingroom seating & tv were also nice & comfortable. Thank you. importanitems.attentiopiddlypaner.

During the summer this waterfront home with docks and water toys would be delightful. Near freezing in September our primary experience was indoor. The older cabin like atmosphere was nostalgic, but not as functional as we would like. The stairway upstairs lacked height making access difficult. Lighting was inadequate for a puzzle. The silverware was too limited for a party of six. The beds were small and less than comfortable. After the rave reviews from summer guests we were disappointed.

Over all we had a great time in Island Park. The house was well appointed. We had some issues with the wall heater in the bathroom( blowing hot air on high and would not turn off), we tried to reach the owner with no luck. There was a bizarre smell in the house that wouldn't seem to go away. Two of the bedrooms are part of a second story add on, we didnt end up using them. The stairwell had extremely low clearance and had low clearance truss style ceilings. Some repairs, cleaning and upkeep could be done on the dock. We rented ATVs and 4 wheelers at a local rental company and explored the trials, we rented a boat at the resort on the lake and went to a dinner play. It was about 30 minutes from West Yellowstone.

New mattresses are desperately needed. The beds are terrible! It’s frustrating not to be able to sleep well on vacation. The bedding didn’t feel clean and the carpet is gross. I hate carpet in general anyway. The couches smelled. It’s an old house and the handle on the sliding door came right off. I wouldn’t say it’s charming and it felt uncomfortable to just lounge. The hammock broke as my son was laying in it. As I’ve read in other reviews it’s happened before. The kitchen/living area was big with amazing windows and view! Owner/contact was helpful and responsive. Overall we had a great time and had everything we needed.

The house was clean and had plenty of dishes, pots, etc. The boat dock was not accessible by ramp so made our plans to fish from there unavailable. That was very disappointing to our party. The wi-fi stopped working half-way in to our stay and was not repaired while we were there on site. That too was disappointing. We got some cold weather for a couple of days and the upstairs loft was cold at night which created a need to have the furnace run more than we thought it should which created hot spots on the lower level which made it stuffy during the sleeping hours. However, overall, we had a great time accessing off-site fun with Yellowstone so close. We just learned to deal with the smaller inconveniences. The beds were uncomfortable and the ramp out to the dock was not connected so we lost an "amenity". That was disappointing.

This house worked perfect for our needs, plenty of room, the back of the house with the glass windows offers some Amazing views. Location is about 35-40 minutes to Yellowstone. The kitchen area could use an update on appliances, utensils, pots and pans, that being said everything was functional and we were able to cook meals. Overall we enjoyed our time and would recommend to others.
