"We were so thrilled to be able to secure a room after a terrible Airbnb experience. Luckily they had a cancellation and we were in. The hotel as well as the staff were wonderful! Special mention to Cameron,Alex and Sarah who work in the restaurant and added to our exceptional experience. The food was beautifully prepared and presented and the drinks were among the best. "As in the title, apart from the occasional bleating of sheep and the calling of wild birds, peace and quiet are what you will find at Kilchiaran Farm Cottage - it’s simply lovely. At the same time it’s well equipped with all the necessities for a self catering stay - cooker, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge/freezer etc, and a good Wi-Fi and mobile phone connection.It’s clean and well decorated with comfortable beds and furniture, and we certainly wanted for nothing in the above respects.But it’s the location that set it apart for us. It lies a few miles from the nearest town, Port Charlotte, along a single track road that continues on round the coast. Close by is Kilchiaran Bay where St Columba is reputed to have come ashore many centuries ago. We walked down to it every day and on only one occasion did we not have it completely to ourselves. After having walked across the shingle at the head of the beach, the waterside is flat and sandy and, apart from the coldness of the sea, is good for paddling or even swimming if you’re hardy enough! Tips for your stay:Stock up on provisions before you get there - the nearest co-op is in Bowmore, which has essentials but is not overly large.Remember your midge repellent - as on all of the west coast of Scotland they can be a nuisance, though we didn’t find them too bothersome while we were there.And finally, don’t forget your camera - it’s a very photogenic place.But most of all, relax and enjoy it."

"A haven of peace and tranquillity. The house is very spacious, welcoming lounge with amazing loch views. Full of interesting objects and books.The gardens are beautiful with mixture of wild bluebells but also lawns and a magnificent monkey puzzle tree. The breakfast was tasty and good choice. Thank you and would love to return when in the area again. "

"Tarbert is such a sweet little town. The castle ruins were magical. The hotel itself - very convenient, easy parking, incredibly nice and very hardworking staff. The meals were SUPERB! The room was in good condition. The bed was a bit on the soft and saggy side. Great view though over the water. Hallways are clearly under ongoing repairs. The dinner dining area is quite nice. Breakfast area could use a refresh (especially that first booth seat). Overall, the Anchor Hotel was a great 2 night stop off for us. Thus has been a magical trip overall and the Anchor Hotel was a delightful find along the way!"

"Fiona and Duncan is friendly and helpful and provided a great breakfast every morning. The hotel was quiet and conveniently located a street from the ocean and and across the road from the Bowmore distillery with good restaurants nearby. Very comfortable beds and clean facilities."
