    The Neighborhood:

Situated less than eight miles north-west of Jedburgh, Ancrum is a tiny village in the Scottish Borders. Located on the Ale River, this village is famous as the site of the 1545 Battle of Ancrum Moor, which saw Scottish forces successfully repel an English invasion of the Borders and lowlands. One of two prominent monuments in the area, the one at the site of the battle was rebuilt in the nineteenth century. Near Lanton, the other notable site is the Timpendean Tower, the remains of a tower house constructed in the 15th century. The town of Ancrum has a few establishments, including a pub, a shop, a butcher, and a Post Office; the neighbouring town of St. Boswells also has these necessities, and the larger towns of Jedburgh and Kelso, with their shops, cafes, restaurants, and famous abbeys, are well worth a visit.
