On August 12, 1926, a nearly complete mastodon skeleton was found by tenant farmer James Bailey on the farm of Friend Butt in Johnstown OH.

The mastodon was in a six foot deep peat pit. The shallow depression was once a natural pond over which then property owner Friend Butt once skated on when he was a young boy.

A Newark, OH businessman bought the skeleton and subsequently sold it to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, where it remains on display today.

It took them a mere 113 years since their founding to reach the pinnacle of their fame. One can only imagine what 2039 has in store!

It has a spacious kitchen and living area, and comfortable beds. Stay here if you’re looking for peace and quiet and don’t mind driving 20 minutes to get supplies. "Rented for a week long stay, the host was very accommodating and the cottage was fantastic. Initially I was concerned about it being large enough but it has a very open floor plan with every inch of space being utilized, it felt much larger than the square footage indicacted and all guests were comfortable.
