"Very nice boutique type of hotel. The room was beautiful with a nice, comfortable bed. It lacked ammentities beyond soap, shampoo and a coffee maker. No robes, slippers, toiletries or mini bar selections. Staff in general, was cordial, polite and helpful, but my interactions seemed transactional. Food service and selection varied. The italian restaurant was the best, especially the outdoor seating. The Grill also served a great fillet. The buffet was OK, but just a standard selection of dishes. What diminished this hotel was it felt cheap, meaning everything had a price or restriction. A card to get a pool towel, a CC hold in case something was damaged in your room, room service charge was $10.00 per delivery, the cabana fee was$125.00 per day. I mentioned the lack of room ammentities. The 2 major negatives, for me, my opinion, were: outrageously loud music and DJ at the pool for hours in the afternoon. The constant, strong percussion beat that i couldn't get away from. The other major issue was the pool opened at 7:30, however by the time i got to the pool at 8:00, every single chair and umbrella was taken with a towel and personal item, meaning they space was already taken. However, most days, many chairs were unoccupied all day long. The 4th day of my stay, i went to the pool at 6:50 AM, 40 minutes before the pool opened, and again, every chair, lounge and umbrella were taken. A complaint to the concierge did not correct the situation. "

"Pools were nice and ambience was excellent! Food was amazing as the selection changed from day to day. Staff was very professional however the Barceló concerge could be pushy at times with special rates and discounts. All in all i would bring my family back again. "

"The rooms were always clean and housekeeping was good, not great. We tipped $100 pesos every day for housekeeping and there was nothing special but just really clean. The pool and beach servers were always on the ball and friendly and never felt like we waited. The bartenders were very friendly both at the pool bars and the lobby bar. All around great staff. Special thanks to Saul at La Palapas for reading my mind and bringing me a plate of bacon. It was like magic. Also praise to Moises, Jesus, and last but not least the Kinoko host Francisco. The food was delicious at Las Murales steakhouse. I had the wagyu ribeye and it was the best steak I’ve ever had in Mexico and I’m from Alberta, the steak capital of the world. Kinoko Japanese was excellent especially the Teppanyaki experience with the chef. Omelettes were the breakfast peak and the bacon was always crispy. Lattes were good as well and was quick. Overall I’ve been to almost a couple dozen resorts over the years from 4 star to 4 diamonds and this one was pretty epic considering the property itself was older (2006 I think?) and the beach was no bueno. The cleanliness, staff and the food made up for the few shortcomings. Would come again."

"This place is 10/10! The food was great! Asiana & Rincon Mexican were our favs! The staff goes above & beyond! Reyes the bartender was our ALL TIME FAVORITE! Find him — you will not be sorry! The pools were a little chilly but great vibes around them & when the sun is shining they feel good! Yummy drinks! The beach was beautiful! The staff & service is phenomenal! The location of the resort is perfect — just steps away from 5th Ave & blocks away from the ferry to Cozumel! All good things!! Can’t wait to go back!! "

"Great resort property and staff. Rooms were clean and public bathrooms were always very clean and well stocked. Food and restaurant selection very good. Juan and Jesus at the Sumptuori restaurant were excellent, friendly, hard working and funny. The Mexican restaurant is very ethentic dining so if your used to Canadian and Americanized Mexican then this is not the restaurant for you. The sports bar is open 24 hours and offers a great atmosphere and good appy style pub snacks. It’s a hidden gem. Omar our concierge was top notch.He consistently amazed us. We were a group of 8 with four rooms. He knew everyone’s sir names and room numbers without us reminding him. It’s so nice to be able to explore the other resorts while staying at Colonial. Thank you. "
