Well-located gem in the middle of Boudha--minutes from Boudhanath Stupa, major monasteries, and plenty of shopping. The cheerful staff will strive to make your stay perfect. Rooms are clean and comfortable with nicely renovated bathrooms. Hotel Butsugen is a real find!
Pros:
- Every morning, complimentary breakfast is provided.
- The hotel is very close to Hyatt Regency, making it great for dining and taking walks.
Cons:
- The single bed is narrow. If you want to change your position at night, it’s uncomfortable.
- One of the windows in our room is very close to another apartment building. It’s awkward because people from that building can easily see into our room.
- The room’s lighting is dim, making it challenging and gloomy when spending extended time in such a small space.
- The bath towels are very old, some even have holes.
- The hotel is surrounded by noise. Every morning starting at 4:00am, dogs bark and crows caw.
Fabulous place! I will definitely recommend and stay there again.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
The peepholes were installed backwards on most rooms on the 3rd floor, meaning anyone could look into the peephole and see the entire room, but the guest could not look out. Very unsafe to have.
Excellent customer service. I have never felt more at home at a hotel than here. Perfect!!!!!! Stayed at Hyatt first half of trip and wished I would have stayed here the whole time.
Hotel Butsugen is the absolute best and I immediately felt like part of the family. The breakfast and masala tea was great. Enjoy a Nepal beer on the rooftop with a view of the Boudhananth Stupa, which is only a five minute walk away. The rest of our group was staying at the Hyatt Regency and there is a very convenient back entrance to the Hyatt, also a five minute walk. Luggage storage was safe and secure during our two week trek.
What a pleasure to arrive in Kathmandu and stay here. Clean, spacious rooms, very helpful staff. They emailed me quickly after making a reservation and I was able to arrange a pickup from the airport. Rooftop offers some stunning views of surrounding mountains. 5 minutes to walk to the stupa, if that and less than 20-30 minutes to other Kathmandu attractions, when Kathmandu traffic is cooperating. Staff can arrange taxis from the hotel for much lower rates than I could manage.
This Hotel is located right next to the Hyatt at 1/3rd of Hyatt's cost. Yet it offers every amenity that any other hotel would provide. it is maintained well, kept immaculately & the service is excellent. The breakfast offered too is absolutely amazing. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this hotel.
Unbelievably clean, comfortable and beautiful hotel ran by lovely people who were an absolute pleasure. The breakfast was also absolutely deliscious. The folks who run the hotel were just so sweet there’s no way we wouldn’t stay at their lovely establishment if and when we heard back to Kathmandu. The room itself was very clean, the bed was the most comfortable one we encountered on our 10 day trip, and it was just an A+ experience overall. Highly recommend it!
I stayed on the night of my arrival in Katmandu. The owners were very helpful and kind. The hotel is new and clean and my room was excellent and very comfortable. They also have a very nice restaurant where I had a delicious Nepali dinner.
