Pali Hale - Hawai'i Oceanfront Experience

Pali Hale is your epic oceanfront "home in Hawaii". Pronounced “pah-lee hah-leh”, which in Hawaiian means “Cliff House”, it is the ideal center for all your Island adventures or just relaxing in paradise with breathtaking 180 degree ocean views and sight and sounds of crashing waves in front of you. Just 18mi from Hilo. Two large oceanfront master suites, two spacious oceanfront living rooms & views from every corner of the house. Did we mention the views?

Pali Hale is one of the most popular and recommended Vacation Rentals on the Hawai'i coast. Many of our guests return year after year to Pali Hale, their own oceanfront "home away from home in Hawaii".

The House
Three bedrooms and three and half baths with two separate oceanfront master suites each with their own private bath offer spectacular ocean views and lanai access. Both master bedrooms and the garden bedroom also have new "Tempur-pedic" breeze cool gel-style mattresses for your comfort during your stay. A spacious 2nd family room also offers ocean views, a queen futon, and lanai access with an adjoining full bathroom which is shared by the 3rd bedroom which offers a queen bed with garden views and ocean peeks through the living area. A large kitchen with new modern appliances and a full laundry room provide all the conveniences of home right on your own oceanfront oasis. See and hear the ocean waves crashing against the famous Puna lava cliffs, from every corner of the house.

300mbps WIFI Internet access, 300 channels HD TV, Hi-def movies, and house phone with unlimited United States calling are all included with your stay.

One of the best features to look for in oceanfront living is oceanfront sleeping accommodations, listening to the sound of the waves and waking to spectacular sunrises in the mornings. Not all oceanfront vacation homes have even a single oceanfront bedroom. But Pali Hale offers two spacious oceanfront master bedrooms plus an oceanfront family room with sleeping accommodations. Because Pali Hale uniquely offers multiple oceanfront sleeping accommodations, it is ideal for families, couples, multi-couple, and corporate getaways. But unlike many other properties, at Pali Hale everyone can enjoy the views and experience!

The Nature
You may see and hear whales in front of the house during whale season from November thru May. Spinner dolphins and green turtles (Honu) can be spotted in the surf in front of the house year round. We have a rare Nene family who typically fly in and stroll around the yard each day (our Nene family are currently on vacation, but you are likely to see others around the neighborhood each day). We have geckos around the property who love to come out and sun and Coqui rainforest tree frogs who love to sing at night providing the perfect tropical backdrop against the sound of crashing waves.

Guest Assistance
Pali Hale is our treasured 2nd home in paradise and we are excited to share it with you and hope it makes your stay on the Big Island extra special. Bo and I are available by phone, text, and email for questions, island advice, and help. Our caretaker lives close by and is also available for hire to help you book activities or tour the island.

We also provide you with island and puna area guides with our personal recommendations to island activities and local dining and shopping. You don't have to worry about finding a good place to eat :)

Payment schedule option: We are able to accept bookings for your stay in 2 or 3 payments upon request.

Note: If you would like multi-payment option, do not instant book, instead please put in a booking inquiry and let us know you would like 2 or 3 payments, and we will adjust the payment schedule before we approve the booking inquiry.

The neighborhood
Activities at Pali Hale include - spectacular gorgeous sunrises, whale watching (during season typically end of Nov thru end of April - peak is Jan/Feb/Mar), green turtles and dolphin spotting, cliff front fishing (caution and care must be taken near cliff edges), and just relaxing the days away on either of the two lanais.

Amazing house; amazing view!

I can’t say enough about how terrific this property and the whole experience of staying there was. Mike texted with us and answered every question—he even contacted us to suggest we go see the eruption at Volcanoes National Park. He provided all sorts of great information about the area. It’s difficult to leave the gorgeous view from the upstairs deck, though! We saw whales spouting and dolphins swimming by. And the bed was the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in! If we could, we’d return every year.

Rigjt on the Surf!

Beautiful location. The faint sound of surf pounding on the rocks was such a wondeful soundscape to our time here. Very welcoming hosts, great facilities, terrific communication. Convenient washer and dryer. Could not have asked for a better 1st impression of Hawai'i! You will not regret booking this location.

Pali Hale Paradise

We love this house, and have been returning to it for many years. The sunrises while sitting on the lanai having coffee in the morning are spectacular. The kitchen is fully appointed, and the great room with vaulted ceiling is welcoming. A wonderful place to have as a base while enjoying activities on the Big Island.

We so enjoyed this spacious home and the incredible views. There were only two of us but it would be ideal for 2 or 3 couples. The hosts have readily available an abundance of beach supplies, books and games, binoculars, and outdoor seating. This was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the setting.

great place to stay

Great house. Easily and comfortably houses a family. Picturesque view. We saw many sea turtles; a little too late in the season to see whales (late March). All the accessories you will need: beach towels, scuba equipment, umbrellas, binoculars, and more.

Big Island Eastside View Home

House was perfectly located on a volcanic bluff looking due east. Fantastic sunsets. Great view of water, incoming waves and ocean wildlife. The place had everything needed for a long stay - comfortable seating areas, well furnished kitchen, numerous deck chairs, and bath & bedroom towels & linens. Great base location for short trips to a variety of sites - black sand beach, waterfalls, Volcano National Park and Hilo market & restaurants. We were totally satisfied with this VRBO and will return in future trips to the Big Island.

Tucked away and stunning

We cannot even begin to describe how beautiful it was to sit on the deck or right on the lava rock and watch the waves crashing in the coves around this house. We were impressed by the lower deck but amazed by the views off the upper deck. Mike was beyond helpful with suggestions and tips for activities, local food and shopping, as well as information about the region, which made our trip much more enjoyable. We had an absolutely wonderful time here and would not hesitate to come back again. Dave & Brandi

Awesome view with whales

This is a wonderful property with all the amenities. No AC, no problem. The ocean breezes and ocean view was incredible. We wish we could've stayed longer. The extensive island information was invaluable and made for relaxing days. Beds were very comfortable and the 4 bathrooms were convenient. The kitchen has everything you need. Worth every penny. We felt privileged to have such an awesome view and quite the show from the whales. Outside gardens were very beautiful too.

Wonderful!!

"We loved Pali Hale! The ocean front property was perfect for our two families. The house is two levels of amazing views of the ocean, all the amenities you could possibly want or need, great space, and sleeping arrangements for 7 of us. You will LOVE the lanai on both levels, facing east for a beautiful sunrise, coffee in hand, whales and dolphins waiting to be spotted. It was amazing! We booked this property almost a year in advance just knowing this was the one! Highly recommend!"

Amazing location! Wonderful home!

We spent 3 nights at Pali Hale while based on the east side of the island. What a perfect spot to do so. This home has everything! Comfortable beds, all amenities you are looking for, room for everyone to relax and enjoy. I can't say enough about this wonderful location. The ocean and cliffs are your front yard. The 400 year old lava that is formed here is jaw dropping. The sunrises were incredible. We had wonderful weather while in the Hilo area. It's a quick and easy 20 min drive to Hilo if you want to explore the town. Also convenient to explore Pahoa, and the East rift zone. Mike & Bo's place is a 5-star in my book! Mahalo!

Even better than the listing

We stayed 5 days. The water crashing against the rocks was much better than I expected. Waves make a wonderful crashing sound as the top of the wave curls and breaks apart the structure of the wave. We heard plenty of that. When big waves crashed against the 20 foot cliffs without breaking, it sounded like thunder and the waves splashed 10-15 higher than the cliffs. It was hard to look away. I stared at the waves while lying in bed. I stated at the waves while doing dishes. We would go elsewhere and have an adventure, and then come back and stare at the waves. We absolutely loved this home.

Amazing House and Views!!

This exceeded our expectations. We wish we had spent our whole trip here. There is no topping the views and location. We saw turtles and Dolphins from the Lanai several time and used the binoculars provided by hosts to watch the sea life. They thought of everything. It was quiet and private which is just what we wanted. The house had everything we could possibly need. The greeting upon our arrival was awesome. The whole house smelled like Hawaii flowers and Hawaiin music was playing for us, not to mention the great gift basket waiting for us. Full laundry facilities which we used several times which was great after a day of hiking or swimming. We only used the upstairs since there was only two of us but we spent so much time on the lanai just watching the ocean and hunting for Dolphin pods. The upstairs bed was so comfortable we wanted to take it home. Stores and restaurants are within 15 minutes, walking to Haena Beach was close by and live music was also within 15 minutes. So awesome! The overall experience was fantastic and would highly recommend this house to everyone, you cannot beat having a whole house oceanfront for a vacation.

Wow!!

I never imagined that the waves would be that close. You know you are in Hawaii by the lava cliff outside the lanai, and the crashing waves. Pali Hale is an oasis that you want to call home. The house design allows for natural airflow, so you feel your location - the wind and waves splash and spray. And when the surf is up, the bass notes resonate. Sunsets and sunrise bring colorful backdrops. We saw a few spouts from the passing whales, which was fun. Just looking out from the expansive kitchen while preparing or clearing a meal reminded us that we were in paradise. Mike was generous with suggestions and directions. Even tips about where to snorkel resulted in a lifetime experience - swimming with sea turtles ! He was quick to respond to any questions and allowed a late check-out. If you want to go to Hawaii and soak up the ocean without leaving the comfort of your peaceful abode, this is the place. If you want easy access to Hilo, beautiful beaches, Volcano NP, or anywhere on the lush eastern side of the island, this is the place! Mahalo for sharing your beautiful home. This was a spectacular setting to renew our wedding vows.

Wonderful and peaceful

The house is spacious and beautiful. The view is fantastic. We really enjoyed sitting on the lanai to watch the sunrise and to watch the waves in the evening with our drinks made in the blender. The kitchen had everything we needed-2 types of coffee makers, the blender, great supply of dishes, glasses, pans, utensils. The king sized bed was very comfortable and sleeping to the sounds of the waves, wind and rain is so restful. Mike and Bo thought of everything we needed-beach chairs and umbrella, snorkel stuff, beach towels. They provided wonderful instructions on how to find the house, how to use things in the house, referrals on activities to do on the island. This is a first class rental right down to the fluffy towels and all of the toiletries and soaps we needed, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, dish and laundry soap. Housekeeping even left us fresh fruit, flowers and Hawaiian treats. The weather was perfect while we were there so we were gone from the house during the day most of the time, but there were plenty of indoor activities like games and movies on a TV that worked just right. Wifi was flawless too. Many island rentals have issues with TV and internet. No problems here. The house is about 30 minutes away from Hilo and the Kapoho Tidepools the other direction and about 45 minutes from Volcano National Park. Thank you to Mike and Bo for sharing their wonderful house.

Perfect Place to Stay on the Big Island

We decided to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary in Hawaii with our two boys and their partners. Having been previously to Maui and Oahu, we decided on the Big Island for this momentous occasion. We arrived late at night for our 10 day stay at Pali Hale so we didn't get an overall picture of the house until morning. But when we woke up to the roar of the surf, bird calls, and sunshine flooding the lanais, we were in love. The location is fantastic for both ocean viewing and star gazing. We did get to see spouting Humpback whales just off the lanai and viewed the lunar eclipse. We had lovely weather for the full ten days, raining for maybe about an hour the last night. The house was very comfortable and spacious for three couples. We got used to the humidity after the first night and felt pretty comfortable the whole time we were there with the ceiling fans humming and the louvered windows open--always a breeze. The beds were very comfortable, the house was clean, and the front door was easy to open with a combination deadbolt lock. I always worry about losing actual keys on vacations so this worked well. There are enough bathrooms for each couple to have their own plus one half bath on the second floor for times when we were all together for meals. The kitchen is large with lots of working space which we put to good use as our kids like to cook. Mike called the first morning to make sure everything was okay and gave advice on restaurants and places to visit. We spent some time in Hilo and Pahoa (a really cute little town with lots of personality) and ate a late lunch at the Volcano House (Volcanoes National Park) which I highly recommend. The food was really good, not too pricey, and the view of Kilauea's crater was jaw dropping. We hiked a few trails in the park to view steam vents, although right now the volcano is dormant. We took a drive down to Isaac Hale Beach Park and drove on a road that went through the cooled off lava--surreal. Sadly, we didn't get to snorkel at the Kapoa Tide Pools as the entire bay is now filled with lava, but we did find a couple of other beaches close to Hilo where we did get to snorkel and visit with huge sea turtles who were very friendly. All in all, it was a fabulous vacation and one we will always remember. It was comforting to know we had Mike at our backs to answer any questions we might have. Thanks again, Mike and Bo, for sharing this beautiful house and little bit of heaven with the rest of us.
