This is a lovely hotel with a friendly welcome.
If you've been walking then you'll really appreciate the deep hot bath.
There a nice bar with food service downstairs and breakfast was great.
Quiet, rural setting with good walking as it is nestled at the edge ofvthe Cheviots.

Hearty food & a lovely friendly team.
We stayed at the Border Hotel for a couple of nights while walking St Cuthbert’s Way. The bath was a very welcome addition to the bathroom & we certainly made use of it during our stay. The bed was a little too soft & a bit lopsided but after our hikes we slept like logs anyway. This is a no frills hotel but it had everything we needed. Hearty food & a lovely friendly team.
Welcome from staff in bar good, room confortable-no mirror for drying hair .
Limited menu in bar for evening meals
Great breakfast although the large room was a bit chilly and there were only two table to be served.
Absolutely loved it! Our apartment room was perfect for my and my two sons and the staff could not have been more helpful. Looking for an excuse to go back already!
Dinner and cooked breakfast was very good. Room basic but clean but no heating on when we got in so very cold until we put radiators on also cold eating downstairs on the evening had to put another jumper on to be comfortable
The property has a lot of history and fabulous outdoor area.. the new owners informed us they were putting in a fire pit under the gazebo that will allow customers to experience the outdoor area into the evenings.
Fabulous view of the hills from our bedroom.

More supportive mattress would have been welcome. Didn’t sleep at all well. Otherwise stay was fine
Hotel is very charming from the outside and around the bar area. Set in a quiet village and is clearly a hill walkers paradise. Clearly not a hotel that is suitable for families with infants.
Positives - Peaceful, Friendly staff, bed was comfortable.
Negatives - Pennine Room (most expensive room in hotel) was filthy. Shower head is disgusting and needs replaced, and when something so obvious is overlooked, it leaves you fearing the worst. Window sills were filthy. Cobwebs everywhere. Light bulbs out. Carpet clearly had a quick hoover over prior to our arrival, but generally still filthy. Really poor when you have an infant who spends most of their time on the floor.
No cleaning and emptying of bins in the morning, so room bin was overflowing.
Food - first nights dinner, the wife and I both had ordered the chicken pie. One was hot and one was cold. No staff member asked how our meal was. I wasn’t hungry so gave wife the hot pie and I ate the chips. Ordered an omelette for our 1 year old and when it finally arrived, it was severely undercooked. Dangerous for a child of this age.
Breakfast service is very slow, fine when it’s adults who can have tea and a chat, but as I said before. Not a hotel setup well for a family with a young child. Floor in breakfast area had bits of food from days prior.
On check out - no one asked how our stay was. Can only assume they expect negative feedback so don’t bother asking.
Really, really poor. Shame
Lovely hotel and my target now for 3 years in 17 days of walking the Pennine way.
It’s a small cosy bar with more restaurant at side and rear.
After 16 miles of my last days walking a reals Hot bath was particularly inviting.
Would I stay there again? Hell yes! See you in 3 years when I do “a lap of Honour”
We didn’t actually stay at this hotel. It was shabby downstairs, and little attention seemed to be given to COVID precautions. The room was slightly better than downstairs, but the curtains were hanging off the rail, the wooden toilet seat had some damage and wouldn’t have been hygienic. To my mind if a hotel can’t be bothered to fix a simple thing like broken curtain hooks, or a worn toilet seat, it does not give guests confidence that it is doing its utmost to keep people safe in these trying times.
The bed was large and looked fine, but we didn’t stay to lay our heads there.
The hotel is steeped in tradition and oozes character. Its the iconic finishing point of the Pennine way, a 268 mile walk from Edale in Derbyshire finishing at the border Hotel in Kirk Yetholm. The standard of the hotel is 1st class the staff warm and friendly and the food is delicious. Highly recommended

Disappointed that the advertised walk in shower was not to be, but otherwise a good stay. Breakfast is excellent and plentiful and staff are friendly.
Been here several times and always given a warm welcome by friendly staff. Food is excellent too. Only downside for me is that the bed is far too soft for my taste, others may like this.
