About this property

Meadowlands Cottage, Horse Ranch with Wood Burning Stove and a River, Hot Tub

  • A small river winds through Kernville Ranch’s 15 acres of meadows, shade trees, and grazing horses. Meadowlands Cottage, a quaint bungalow attached to the main house, overlooks the lawns and fields. Guests can swim in the river’s seasonal swimming hole, relax in the cedar hot tub under starry skies, or enjoy the zip line and rustic wood burning stove with endless firewood.
The MAIN BEDROOM features a queen bed, ensuite bath, and built-in curtained bunk with a wall-mounted TV—perfect for kids or privacy. The BATHROOM has a tile floor, walk-in shower, and vaulted ceiling, with doors to both the bedroom and hall.
A sound-insulated central door connects to the neighboring Mountain View listing. For larger groups, both it and the nearby Shiny Spartan trailer can be rented along with the cottage.
The cozy DEN doubles as a second bedroom or living room, with twin beds, a sitting area, TV, and potbelly stove with ranch-cut firewood. At the heart of the house, the KITCHENETTE offers a stovetop, two mini-fridges, toaster oven, microwave, sink, and laundry facilities.
Guests have private use of the cottage and are welcome to explore the fenced grounds. Shared outdoor spaces include the hot tub, river, lawns, barns, and trails. A dedicated groundskeeper visits daily to care for the horses.
I don’t live on-site but remain attentive and responsive. My husband and I have worked in horses and hospitality for over 20 years, and I was honored with the Hero Award from XXX in 2014. While this historic property occasionally has quirks, I strive to make every stay memorable and comfortable.
Nature provides its own magic here—deer at sunset, children chasing frogs in the mint field, or herons gliding over the meadows. Kernville Ranch offers families a unique mix of comfort, history, and wide-open beauty.

Wonderful property!

If you need a quick relaxing and affordable getaway, this is definitely the spot! The property grounds are absolutely gorgeous. Horses, hammocks, a little peaceful stream, beautiful greenery, hot tub, bbq, and plenty of shady mature trees. We loved our stay with the fam! Highly recommend.

My husband and I loved staying at the beautiful Kernville Ranch. We loved the quiet and the scenic beauty. I loved that the cottage was pet friendly and our dog had the time of her life seeing the amazing horses at the ranch. The community is amazing for hiking and outdoor adventures. We enjoyed hiking at a nearby trail. The location is perfect for a restorative getaway.

Adorable little Place

The place is set on a horse ranch. There is a little stream that runs on the property. It has a wood hot tub but I didn't find it as inviting in person as it appeared in the photos. The floor plan of the house is great and easily works for 5 people. The little home is decorated nicely. The property manager was easy to communicate with. Location is not too far from restaurants or the Kern River. I would stay here again!

Relaxing stay

This cottage is a short walk from the town square. The property has grills and a hot tub. There are areas to hang out both indoors and out. The property is fun to explore. Our infant slept soundly in the bedroom while we played cards outside or sat in the hot tub. The hot tub is within range for our video baby monitor. Some board games would be a nice addition to this space. This is a nice spot to relax and would be a great space for gatherings - particularly if you could snag other spots on the property.

Shabby Chic Little Farm House

An adorable little house within walking distance from the Kern and town. This place is attached to another property. It had a great floor plan and was a comfortable space. The property manager was very easy to communicate with. I was looking forward to using the hot tub but, it was not for me. However, this was because someone (else visiting the property) may have left the top open after they used it and it filled with tree leaves/droppings. Regardless, we very much enjoyed our stay here and would stay again.

We booked Meadowlands Cottage and found - Dirty kitchen / outdoor area - Open! exposed rat poison in the kitchen - Mousetraps in the kitchen - Ants in the refrigerator This is NOT a safe place for children – leaving poison and other dangerous substances openly accessible. In addition, mice spread pathogens! We can NOT cook and sleep here with a “good & safe“ feeling. In addition, the road was right next to it and very loud. It is a nice place but with traffic direct next to it. We therefore left on the very same day. The owner could not understand our concerns and kept the money. He did not react to our mail and calls.

The Meadowlands Cottage was a beautiful, serene, cozy place to stay for the night while in Kernville for river rafting trip. The property is expansive and beautiful with no shortage of fun things for kids to do and places to explore. We would love to stay here again next time we come back to Kernville!

The ranch was very nice, it is very close to the town in a peaceful, well kept location. Amy the host was very communicative and made sure we knew what was going on at the ranch so there was no surprises. Our son loved the horses and my husband loved the airforce practicing drills in the valley overhead. We are dropping a star as we feel there was a few things missing that made the stay not 100%, especially when considering price point. There was just things missing that felt like they should be provided, like no bath mat (only big bath towels), no kitchen towel/tea towel, no mugs, no coffee for the coffee machine, or oil for cooking. It was very minimal things provided - we wondered if they were in the adjoining area of the house which we did not book.

Enchanting Property

We enjoyed our stay at the Meadow house so much. It was close enough to downtown to grab a quick meal but far enough away to be peaceful. We had such a relaxing time. I am in love with this vacation rental. The Meadow House is only one bedroom with additional sleeping in the living room or common area. You can really only do toaster oven or simple meals in the kitchen. There is plenty of dining in town though so you may not need the kitchen at all.

Being next to a horse ranch was amazing, but the property itself was less than stellar. Cobwebs, musty smell, shower drain was clogged, no coffee maker, and I could go on
