About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Charming, cosy cottage. Family and dog friendly.

This is a delightful, charming barn conversion. Both spacious, yet cosy.
There is private parking at the front of the front of The Cottage for up to 3 cars.

Ideal for couples or families. Dog friendly.

The Cottage accommodates 4 people comfortably with two bedrooms and there is a double sofa bed in the living room should you need extra sleeping space. Dogs are considered part of the family and are very much welcome, but we must know their names :).

The living room boasts a log burning fire, some logs will be provided and you can purchase some more from the village. The rear of the cottage looks out over the private, enclosed, terraced garden that is accessed by the back door.

The dining area seats 6 and looks out over the rear garden.

There is a well equipped kitchen and a downstairs cloakroom/toilet. Upstairs is the master bedroom with a double bed and a smaller bedroom with twin beds. There is a family bathroom with a shower and bath.

We have indicated this cottage as not suitable for 0-2 years, this is due to there being no stair gates and there is no extra guard to the fire (other than its door). Your infants are welcome as long as you understand this risk. A travel cot can be provided if required and a high chair on request. Small person cutlery is provided in the kitchen.

Hartley has an abundance of red squirrels, pheasants and small birds that are often found passing through the back garden of the cottage. Look out for the parrots!

Kirkby Stephen is a traditional market town of historic buildings, cobbled yards, quaint corners and interesting shops.
It is on the famous Settle to Carlisle railway line. There is a heritage/information centre, café's, pubs, eateries, bakery and a superb Indian restaurant!

Attracts both walkers and cyclists alike. Situated on the Wainwright’s coast to coast path with walks from the cottage ranging from quiet riverside walks and walks along the railway lines to fells including Eden viaducts footpath, the Poetry trail, Howgills and Dales, Hartley fell and the Nine Standards, Smardalegill Viaduct and Great Asby Scar.
For cyclists, Kirkby Stephen is on the W2W (Walney to Wear) coast to coast route and the Lakes and Dales Loop nearby. There is electric bike hire in Hartley and a bike shop/bike repair in Kirkby Stephen.

For those that are looking for heritage and culture, there are the castles at Brough and Pendragon and there are nearby villages of Winton, Nateby, Soulby, Ravenstonedale and Newbiggin-on-Lune - some within walking distance.

Super space. Comfortable accommodations. Lovely back garden with a red squirrel visitor and lots of bird song. Great walks from the door with neighbouring Kirkby Stephen easily accessed by foot path or car for shopping. Ample parking space that is easy to access. Quiet. We very much enjoyed our stay

Lovely cottage (larger than expected from photos). Everything you need for a stay away from home.
Excellent response from owner. Clean and tidy and well equipped property. Little garden with daily visits from male/female Guests pheasant and little red squirrel plus plenty of little birds (bag of bird feed and nuts for squirrel were left for us to use). Unfortunately weather was poor so did have opportunity to sit out (furniture was available). Thank you for the traybake and Finley enjoyed the dog treats left for us. Plenty of walks from your doorstep, we liked the walk on the old viaducts about 10mins away. Short walk to Kirkby Stephen, where have a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants (some was closed due to first week in new year and they were taking holiday break, after Christmas busy period - we expected this may be the case). Property has its own parking space and neighbours were friendly.

Lovely comfortable cottage
Hartley is delightful and so is this lovely cottage, only 10 minutes walk to Kikby Stephen. Excellent location for walks, or you can stay cosy and watch all the wildlife in the garden. Recommended!

Lovely quiet cottage
There is so much to do from the front door and loads more after a short drive. This time we walked to Brough and back across fields and hills, and had fish and chips at the pub along the bridleway in Nateby (examples of front door excursions there) and we also walked along a stretch of the Pennine Way to Low Force and High Force, and explored some of the high routes along the Mallerstang (we used a car to get to those places). There is so much we have not yet explored, including the limestone pavement above Orton and the walk to Keld. I still dream of climbing Mickle Fell, even though every time I get a permit my chosen weekend is a wash-out of Noah proportions. I can hope. It's a great place to get back to, with a good kitchen, a comfy lounge and a proper table. I love a proper table.
