Overall this a good hotel and close to Kumamoto station. This hotel is a bit dated and uses keys for hotel rooms. Amenities were basic. Room was spacious. Staff were friendly.

We chose this hotel due to the special Kumamoto decoration for the kids as a surprise for the trip. It was a very enjoyable three night stay as we loved the cute Kumamon bears that the kids loved playing, appreciated the spacious room and layout that fit ideally for a family of four with young kids and loved its close proximity to the Kumamoto station and Amu Plaza shopping centre. The kids were so sad when we had to leave for the next location.

The hotel upgraded us to a larger room. Room was very quiet even though the hotel was next to the JR station. Great location and very convenient to all shinkansen, local trains, trams and buses. Buffet breakfast had a good spread. The reception staff were very friendly and even recommended us one of the best ramen we have tasted in Japan at the JR station. Our only issue was that our bed sank in the left side and had probably seen better days. Overall, we would definitely stay again at The New Hotel Kumamoto if we return to the city.

Conveniently located hotel by Kumamoto Station

This hotel has a lobby that feels more like a regular hotel than a japanese business hotel, but conversely, the opposite applied to my room. The room was comfortable (the bed was very nice), but while it was clean, there definitely was a few spots that could have done with a bit more cleaning- such as a mysterious white spot on the couch. Even so, I had a good stay overall, and the staff were very nice. Still, I'd say you're mainly paying for the convenient location right next to Kumamoto Station, as this hotel otherwise doesn't quite match the value for money I've gotten at other hotels here in Japan.
