Built by the owner on the family croft, An Dòbhran (meaning the otter) provides a warm, Gaelic welcome for you, whether you want to explore the west coast and Skye, climb the many munros nearby or simply sit and watch the tide going in and out from the comfort of any of our rooms, as they all have loch views. There is an open-plan living space allowing you to share each other’s company while doing separate activities. The full-height ceiling, with windows to the sky, provides a sense of space and an opportunity to view the stars from the comfort of the living room. The separate galleried study area creates a separate space where you can overlook the living room or look out to the hill while you read, catch up on emails or plan the next day. An Dobhran can accommodate up to four guests. Upstairs, there is a kingsize bedroom with an en-suite, ideal for a long soak in the bath after a day on the hills, or for taking a refreshing rain shower. Downstairs, the bedroom can be either a twin or super kingsize bed. This is next to the spacious shower room with its walk-in rain shower. Built to modern insulation standards, with air-source underfloor heating and an electric ‘wood burner’, the house is cosy and environmentally friendly, with a car-charging point (charges apply). Local stone and wood are features on the outside of the ‘viewing room’ and inside it provides the ideal spot to watch for shore life such as otters, salmon leaping, herons and other birds, and overhead, the golden and sea eagles that live all around. Binoculars are provided!

There’s an HD television with BT Sports, Wi-Fi internet, a Nespresso coffee machine as well as a good range of utensils for cooking and baking and a wide selection of books if you fancy an easy day at home. The outside seating area is ideal for an al fresco meal or just a cup of coffee while you watch the world go by. If you really have to do some work while you’re here, there’s a desk and chair in the galleried syudy area.
Located on a quiet road but only minutes from the main route to Skye, you can base yourself here for day trips across the Highlands and Skye. If you prefer to walk, there’s the excellent bar, with food and live music, 500 yards away. Eilean Donan Castle is 10 minutes away and a local bakery and gin producer are 15 minutes’ walk from the house. If you’re interested in arts and crafts, there’s a wide range of creatives with studios open year-round.

Communication with Shona was great previous to our break - all questions were answered.
Dornie is a picturesque loch side village with a great pub, hotel and very short walk from the iconic Eilean Donan castle. Lots to see and do in the area - Skye is about a 20 minute easy drive and drivable to places like Torridon and Applecross.
The property is stunning. When we walked in we just were wowed by the house, the furnishings and the beautiful view from the windows of the lakes, wildlife and hills beyond. I told Shona I thought I’d won the holiday rental lottery. I can honestly say I felt tangible sadness when leaving.
Shona and her husband were very helpful and she gave me tips and ideas about trips I was planning. I wish I was there now and hopefully will return in the future. For anyone who needs to reconnect with nature or find some peace in their life - I can recommend - just don’t tell all your friends ;)
Absolutely stunning
