We stayed for a total of 8 days as a party of 4.
It was a smaller house that resembled a traditional machiya but had a renovated modern feel to it as well.
Location-wise, it is a 15-20 minute walk from Kiyomizu-dera, but generally you will need to walk more than seven minutes in order to really get anywhere for food or transportation.
Many of the restaurants and cafes in the area close before 6pm, so if you want to get dinner outside be prepared to walk or seek transportation.
However, the area is very quiet and peaceful. It feels safe and has a quite charming feel to it.
Regarding the hotel itself, the bathroom was very impressive. Possibly the best part of the hotel.
The futon was nice and comfy as were the beds.
However, we noticed that the cleaning and dusting was a little lacking. Especially around the kitchen vents, under the bed, and the bottom of the bathroom sink. Of course, these are less trafficked areas, but those with a sensitivity towards dust may want to be aware.
As a personal note to the hotel management, we recommend maybe investing in a drying rack?
Of course, I realize that some people may not understand and dry their wet clothes over the tatami, but the presence of the washing machine became quite a moot point by the end of our trip.
Maybe just pre-install one outside? Just saying…
The house itself has a steep step to enter, and the bedrooms are located on the second floor, so it is not handicap accessible.
Overall, a positive experience.
