"This "hotel" is actually a small ancient village that's been restored as a resort. It's extraordinary, though keep in mind that you'll walk outside to go to the restaurants, the lobby, etc. We absolutely loved this. Our suite had a massive patio and amazing sunset views, though our west-facing view was just trees and not the quintessential Tuscan farmland and rolling-hills view; for that you will want a suite in Alto-Borgo, the slightly uphill part of the resort with perfect southeast-facing views. The downside is those rooms are a 10 min walk from the restaurants and main part of the resort, whereas the original suites are right in the village. Oh, and by "village" I don't mean tourists and shops. There aren't any. Zero. It's totally private. And it's not near anything, so no security issues or lookieloos at all. This is a UNESCO site and so they could not build anything new, but only remodel whatever was already there. First surprise is that the road to get there is dirt. Due to UNESCO they can't pave it. Though some small sections of the ancient stone road remain, it's 99% dirt for several kilometers. A couple of disappointments are the main restaurant and the concierge service. The main, Michelin-starred restaurant is great for breakfast, but according to many guests we spoke to it's a let-down for dinner. However the Osteria restaurant is great, and dining at the golf club is good for pizza night. The concierge issues were perplexing for such an amazing resort."

"Our second stay at CDV. Such a special place in Tuscany. The hotel has made many improvements since our last stay, and has nothing but 5 star amenities, the friendliest staff, and the incredible castle hotel with views of the Tuscan countryside. This is world class luxury. The spa is in a league of its own, the restaurant and chefs are making top quality cuisine. I can not wait to come back! "

"We had an absolutely delightful four-night stay at Villa Le Prata during the first week of May. The staff members were outstanding in every way: prompt, helpful, and friendly. The pool was perfect, the breakfasts delicious, and we twice had wonderful dinners at the on-site restaurant. You can't go wrong at Villa Le Prata, which just down the road from Montalcino and not far from Pienza and Montepulciano as well."

"Castello Banfi is a lovely place to take a short retreat in beautiful and astonishingly quiet surroundings. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable, with luxurious linens. The pool was pleasantly warm considering relatively cool weather. The view is lovely. We enjoyed two excellent meals at the Taverna. The staff are gracious and welcoming."

"This is a beautiful classic hotel with the most stunning views over to the Rocca d'Orcia. Outstanding service from all the staff who are so very friendly and helpful. The restaurants are superb with outstanding views. The Thermal Mineral Pools are fantastic if you have any arthritis pain, a daily plunge can alleviate this considerably."

"The location is great, you have beautiful Tuscan view in front of yard. The room and bathroom are large, clean and modern with full kitchen. Good choice of breakfast, restaurant onsite is good for dinner. Free parking is good for travel by car."
