A TWO-MINUTE WALK TO MAIN STREET The house sits 200 meters from the shops, restaurants, and cafes of Lake Placid's Main Street — close enough to walk to dinner, the Olympic Center, or the Mirror Lake shoreline without moving your car. The Mirror Lake public beach is about a 6-minute drive, Whiteface Mountain is under 20 minutes, and High Falls Gorge is roughly 13 minutes out.
That location makes this an easy base for a Whiteface ski week, an Ironman training group, an Olympic-venue weekend, or a family reunion where nobody wants to split across hotel rooms.
A PIECE OF LAKE PLACID HISTORY Built at the turn of the century on land once owned by the Stevens brothers — Lake Placid's first hoteliers — this Colonial Revival home carries details you don't find in new construction: maple hardwood floors laid by George Stevens himself, Roman Doric columns, hand-carved beams in the living room ceiling, a servants' bell call system, a larder off the kitchen, and built-ins throughout. The 2021 renovation kept all of it while adding the comforts of a modern home.
THE BEDROOMS Each bedroom has its own name and character, and every one has a new mattress and a flat-screen TV.
The Wilmington Room, the primary suite, has a King bed, decorative stone fireplace, hardwood floors, handcrafted furniture, and large windows.
The Victoria Room and Brookside Room pair vintage finishes with modern furniture; both have Queen beds.
The Empire Room is a cozy, light-filled space, and the Look Out Below Room features classic accent pieces, high-end linens, and vintage furniture.
The Coyote Cut Room upstairs sleeps four — a Queen and two Twins — with original hardwood floors, a plush area rug, locally inspired artwork, and a blend of metal, wood, and earthy elements.
The sunroom office doubles as a sleeping space, with a couch that pulls out to a queen bed.
THE KITCHEN AND DINING The kitchen features hardwood floors, granite countertops, custom cabinets, and a layout built for cooking with a crowd. It's stocked with everything you'd want: coffee maker, blender, toaster, spice rack, gourmet knife set, wine glasses, and a dedicated wine bar with a wine cooler and specialty tableware.
The dining room is wrapped in windows and fills with afternoon light, with room for 10 or more around one table — whether that's takeout from down the street or a full family-style meal. A sunny breakfast nook off the kitchen seats four, perfect before a morning hike or for cards at the end of the day.
LIVING SPACES The living room combines earthy tones, leather furniture, vintage armchairs, original hardwood floors, and a wood-burning central fireplace. The sunroom looks out over the backyard and works as a quiet office if you're mixing work with the trip.
Downstairs, the basement is a full family rec room — ping pong, poker table, lounge furniture, books, movies, board games, and a flat-screen TV. It's where everyone ends up.
THE GROUNDS The house sits on a large lot with mountain views in the distance, surrounded by mature shade trees, with multiple patio and deck spaces, a BBQ, and a big backyard. Neighborhood parks and hiking trails are close by.
