8/10 Good

"The property itself was wonderful and the staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. The hills can be very steep depending on which building you’re at. Luckily we were only two buildings down from the main building so sometimes we walked if shuttle was taking too long, but it usually came every few mins. The room was a good size for the 4 of us. The drawers and closet were great and the bathroom hallway and vanity were a good size as was the shower stall, which also has a bench. The food was lacking in variety and flavour, especially the buffet. The boys, however, enjoyed eating donuts and jello for breakfast each morning lol. They didn’t seem to replenish the fresh fruit and there was also no bacon or sausage for breakfast in sight. The rice at the sushi restaurant was not cooked properly - not sure if it was just that night we went or they don’t know how to cook sticky white/asian rice. The steakhouse was good if you ordered medium rare - mine was overcooked at medium - it was closer to well done. They didn’t seem to have that much for entertainment - just a fire show and a Latin night. We did miss the purple haze party and foam party, which the boys probably would have enjoyed. They also had a kids club but the boys for some reason didn’t want to go. Overall we had a decent time. I gave a 4 star, as what I complain about may not bother others. I don’t think I would return here as the food was not as enjoyable as I would have liked while on vacation."

"I love this place! We traveled in September so it was less crowded. The food was amazing and the staff was welcoming. Everything was within reach and nothing was difficult to plan or look for. The only issue I had was ants in our room but once I told the staff they took care of it right away. Came back to my room and no more ants."

Hotel Bosque del Mar, Playa Hermosa

"We had an overall very good experience at Hotel Bosque del Mar. When we arrived, we decided we really wanted an oceanfront room, and since we were visiting during low season, the staff was very accommodating and helped us upgrade later that day. The upgraded room was beautiful, clean, and directly facing the ocean, with a lovely outdoor bathtub that made it feel extra special. The property itself is very peaceful, and the beach was definitely our favorite part. The sunsets here are absolutely gorgeous—we even had one evening where we could see a beautiful sunset and a rainbow at the same time. The beach was great for walking, and there were chairs available outside for hotel guests to relax and enjoy the view. We also enjoyed the second-floor area with the pool table, where we spent some time playing, having drinks, and relaxing. The drinks were delicious and reasonably priced, and we also enjoyed an appetizer from the bar. The staff throughout our stay was friendly and helpful. Overall, it was a nice and relaxing stay, and we would recommend Hotel Bosque del Mar, especially if you are looking for a beachfront property where you can enjoy some truly beautiful Costa Rican sunsets."
