Levroux Apartments from AED 245

Château de Levroux (Indre). Au 1er siècle (?), Un oppidum Gaulois est construit sur la colline d'un village nommé : Gabattum. Vers 1010 (?), un château primitif remplace l'oppidum. Il est l'oeuvre de Eude de Déols. En 1188, le château est attaqué et pris par Philippe Auguste En 1189, par le traité d'Azay le Rideau, le territoire et le château appartiennent à Richard Coeur de Lion.
En 1199, le Berry rejoint le domaine Royal de France. Le château change de propriétaire.
Vers 1229, les seigneurs de Levroux consolident le château et améliore ses défenses. En 1413, Louis du Peschin, seigneur de Levroux, décrit au Roi Charles VI l'état du château dans un texte. Il semble que les défenses nécessitent de gros travaux et que l'entretien des courtines soit minimal. En 1416, Jacquette du Peschin épouse Bertrand V de La Tour d'Auvergne. Il devient le nouveau seigneur de Levroux et va devenir le commanditaire du château.
"Au deffus de la Ville eft un fort Château de grande étendue , au milieu duquel fe voit une Tour de prodigieufe groffeur , accompagnée de deux autres , entre lefquelles cit: aﬂis le Portail du Château. De la Châtelenie de Levroux dépendent les Parroifes de S.Phalier , Rouvre les bois , Sainte Colombe, Baudre & plufieurs Fiefs. Il y a dans la Ville un Hôpital & une Maladerie. Le Château de Levroux fut aﬂiegé & pris par le Roy Philippe Augufte, l'an 1188. pendant les Guerres de France & d'Angleterre. Durant le Siège il arriva une chofe affez remarquable, & que les Hitoriens du temps n’ont pas oubliée. ll y avoit un torrent devant le Château , où il y avoit ordinairement grande abondance d'eau, qui pour lors étoit à fec à caufe des excessives chaleurs , de maniere que l'Armée étoit grandement incommodée , faute d'eau , pour faire boire les Soldats , & pour abreuver les chevaux ; alors contre l'attente de tout le monde , il furvint une telle abondance d'eau , que les chevaux en avoient jufques aux fangles , & par ce moyen les Aﬂiegeans eurent de: quoy appaifer leur foif & abreuver leurs chevaux, ce qui fut reputé pour miracle, Le Roy s’étant rendu Maître de la Place , en ﬁt don à fon Couﬁn ﬁls du Comte Thibaud de Champagne." "Extremely clean and comfortable throughout the whole hotel. All the staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. As always the restaurant meal was fantastic. We’ve stayed here several times but this was the first time we had breakfast. I was a bit wary given some of the previous review comments, but the selection and quality was fantastic - probably the best of all the hotels we’ve stayed in."
