What a beautiful, very spacious cottage in a stunning location! Everything we wanted ie lovely accomodation( 1 king-size 1 double and 1 single bed),small village community and a pub which was welcoming a served great food. With regards the accomodation it was equipped with everything you could need particularly the kitchen which there was a lot of basic groceries( oil, condiments , foil, greaseproof ,cleaning stuff and more) and a jug of milk and cookies on arrival along with tea and coffee.A very small critique would be a decent frying pan that didn't stick and to have the kitchen knives sharpened. Also seen as though it is a dog friendly cottage with cream carpets maybe something outside to clean the dogs paws. These are not complaints btw just little things to make someone's stay just that little bit more perfect. There is no village shop you have to drive say 4 miles to Leyburn so go prepared and stocked up with what you need if you don't want to venture very far.Taking all the above into account we would definitely recommend Lilac Cottage.Thank you for making our New Year all that we wanted it to be .

Lovely and cosy cottage.
Lovely and cosy cottage. Beds and sofas comfortable and showers hot and powerful. Well equipped kitchen. Hand soap, toilet roll and kitchen basics provided. Great central location for walking and sightseeing. Leyburn 10 min drive away for supplies. Great local pub. Air pump heating woke us up at 6am.

We loved our stay at Lilac cottage.
The cottage is spacious, well equipped, very warm, cosy, the internet is great too, we stayed for a month and were comfortable for the whole time.
We didn't want to leave and will definitely love to return in the future.
Redmire is a beautiful village to visit, the walks and local scenery are stunning. There are footpaths from the back of the cottage to Redmire Falls, Bolton Hall and through the village up to Bolton Castle with breathtaking views. Really well worth a visit. Enjoy.

Lilac Cottage is very comfortable and warm, so much so that despite some wet October weather we never tried the log burner out.
The beds are comfortable and towels good quality. Some of the kitchen equipment needs updating but we managed very well. Having two parking spaces available is a bonus.
The local pub (Bolton Arms) served excellent food and more importantly excellent ales, with an impressive selection of gins.
All in all we would not hesitate to return.

Lilac Cottage is simply a joy to use for a holiday in Wensleydale.
Beautifully decorated, spacious, spotlessly clean and amazingly well equipped.
Located in a quiet cul-de-sac, it is possible to walk to the local pub, venture further afield on countless footpaths and easily travel around the Dale to enjoy the endless array of attractions.
And if it rains that only serves to make the local waterfalls even more spectacular!!

Lovely cottage, immaculately clean and great location.
Lovely cottage, immaculately clean and great location. Excellent communication and information from the owners with suggestions of places to visit/eat. Well equipped and very comfortable (although could have used a new washing up bowl and some chopping boards). All in all a fantastic get away in a lovely area of the Dales. Would definitely recommend and would book again! Thank you!

We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed sitting out in the garden.
We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed sitting out in the garden. It was a very comfortable house and there were lovely walks to take the dog from the house.
It was good being on the quieter side of the river in Wensleydale.
Our challenge in getting the TV to work in the sitting room was very quickly resolved by the kind owner.

Comfortable house.
Comfortable house. Nice village. Good local walks and easy access to shops at Leyburn and beautiful scenery in Wensleydale and Swaledale.
I always wish the beds were bigger in holiday cottages.
p.s. We all kept banging our heads on the lamp over the kitchen table.
Recycling was an issue. I started to sort out the previous occupants rubbish but didn’t have any gloves. I put a load of recyclable stuff in the rubbish bin.

As a party of six (including Charlie the black lab!) with ages ranging from 14 - early 70s we all found Lilac Cottage to be clean, comfortable and homely. There was plenty of room including a well-equipped kitchen/dining area which allowed us all to sit together for meals. All the bedrooms were nicely decorated and one had an en-suite complete with jacuzzi bath, which the ladies particularly enjoyed! The only thing to note, not as a criticism but an observation, is the main bathroom has a shower cubicle which has no door but instead a partial screen enclosure. This often allowed water to escape the cubicle and land on the floor outside resulting in soaking wet floor mats. It certainly didn't stop us using the shower but is something to be aware of. In all other respects we really enjoyed the cottage. There is also a well-kept enclosed garden and on sunny days it's a peaceful place to sit and relax.
The village of Redmire is lovely, well-located for the main roads if you want to travel around the area and all the locals we met were very friendly and wouldn't pass by without at least saying hello. The village pub, The Bolton Arms, is definitely recommended and as well as a good choice of drinks does excellent meals. For general grocery shopping there is a large Tesco store at Catterick and a well-stocked store, Campbells of Leyburn, both of which are a short drive away. The area around Redmire is beautiful and there are lots of pretty villages and attractions to see. Local highlights include the impressive Bolton Castle, Aysgarth Falls and The Forbidden Corner which are all only minutes by car from the cottage and within walking distance if you feel so inclined! There are cinemas in Catterick and Richmond, the latter being housed in the old railway station which is worth visiting in itself and also does good food. By car there is obviously a huge amount to see and do both locally and further afield, with all the Dales, the Moors, the Coast and York being easily accessible...…..running out of time to do everything you want is the biggest problem!
Overall, we would have no hesitation in returning to Lilac Cottage and would recommend it 100%. A note about the owners - we only met them briefly one day and they were heading off for a short break themselves but a few days later we had a slight issue with the front door lock. Typically enough, it happened at night. Anyway, a couple of text messages exchanged with the owners and a locksmith was arranged for the following morning. Excellent service and very reassuring to have such attentive and helpful owners so a big thumbs up to them.
