Welcome to the Claymore. This Amish built log home is a work of art all unto itself. This tastefully decorated home is ready for your romantic escape or your quiet and restful vacation to recharge your batteries. High speed internet makes it a good choice for extended stay work-cations. It is a world away from the every day but only 7 miles to town. Just steps away from the gorgeous green waters of the Kootenai River where you can catch your own supper or simply relax and watch the river float by. The cooks kitchen is ready to save you trips out for meals...this is our part time home so it is fairly well equipped for quick & easy meals, baking and even seven course dining nights. The master has a king size bed with shower en suite. The secondary bedroom has a luxurious queen. There is a reading nook with books, dvds and adult board games in the main hall, as well as the centrally located laundry closet and second bathroom with an antique tub for soaking away the effects of a day of play in this beautiful corner of Montana. The loft has two twin beds and a view of the river as well. Fast 50 down/50 up wifi powers up all your devices, log into your streaming services on any of the 3 smart tvs...or go old school with one of our many dvds. (Work-cation? Internet up to 500 down/50 up available with 3 days notice for added fee). There is a picnic table on the river bank for dining alfresco. Covered porches on the front and back of the house are perfect for morning coffee and conversation or evening wine and appetizers. Sleeping in late is one of our favorite things so both bedrooms have blackout drapes to combat the early appearance of the summer sun. This house is perfect at recharging your batteries and reconnecting with your spouse...we think there is magic in it.
The home is set up for you, our guests. You will not find closets and drawers filled with our personal belongings…just empty space for yours.
This home is on a 1.13 acre private lot. There are quiet retired neighbors on both sides but it remains quite private. The area is semi-residential in feel with quality homes but it is right at the edge of Montana’s wilderness. You will see wildlife all around during the day. Deer, bighorn sheep, turkeys, chipmunks, geese, ducks will be seen most days…right in the yard. There are multitudes of birds, eagles, hawks and bats as well. We ask that you keep doors closed so critters do not get in. There are other animals we have not seen in our yard but have found “evidence” left behind…including bear, mountain cats, wolves, moose, porcupines, raccoons, coyotes. We recommend situational awareness at all times while in Montana.
There is a Montana Heritage Trail just at the end of our road…Bighorn Trail #42. It is approx 4.5 miles long tracking right along the rivers edge. It continues as far as the Kootenai Falls so no need to drive there although the last 0.8 miles is a rather primitive talus slope and not the young or the physically challenged. We will not cross it ourselves…too scary. See photo #50 in our listing for trail specifics, however the short description is 3.8 miles of is an easy and fairly level hike on crushed gravel equivalent to a rural driveway, high use, open year round and suitable for most hikers, bikers and photographers. The best part is you can begin right from the house!
What we love about this home…why we own it: peaceful, quiet, serene, immersion into nature, wildlife in our yard, quality of local neighbors, fresh air, beauty of the home, beauty of the river (Eric grew up here but I remember saying in 2007 on my first trip to Libby..,” it’s the most beautiful river I’ve ever seen…I can’t believe the color of the water”), the ability to calm down from our Seattle lives and just leave it behind for a while. I’m sure the place will affect your soul, spirit and mind too.

This was one of the best VRBOs I have ever stayed at and I have stayed at many. It was so clean and so well stocked. The location was beautiful. The host thought of everything to make our stay comfortable. We loved seeing all the wild life around the house every day. It made for a very memorable stay.
Beautiful house, awesome location on the river. We had wild turkeys, big horn sheep and deer all around us.
The kitchen was the best and stocked with anything you need to cook which I love to do!!
Very beautiful setting and house. Owners took great thought in making sure all your needs were covered and communicated very well. Well equipped kitchen for meals and comfy beds too!! Lots of wildlife all around and plenty of day trips to enjoy and capture the beauty of Montana with your camera. Thank you Deborah and Erik for a wonderful, much needed relaxing get away.
Very clean and nicely decorated cabin. Hosts were very easy to work with. Very relaxing having the river out your back door. Would stay again if returning to Libby.
From start to finish this place was exactly as described. Peaceful, quiet and a wonderful overall experience. Eric and Deb sent messages on things happening in town that were great recommendations. If you’re looking for quiet and secluded place to stay look no further.
We had an amazing stay in Libby! Deb and Eric were great hosts who were very communicative, had a beautiful property and thought of every last amenity you might need in their home. We used their cabin as a home base while visiting family and friends in Libby, and it was like we had transplanted our own home there. We had a perfect place to rest our weary bodies after each day’s exploration. We had plenty of room, beds were comfy, living room and outdoor spaces so comfortable, kitchen perfect and well-stocked. Thanks for sharing your place and letting us make some fantastic memories there too!
we took a road trip, stayed at 3 homes and this one was the BEST. absolutely loved the quiet beautiful setting, the house was immaculate and had everything you could ever want. the owners were sooooooo great about making sure everything was perfect and it was. we have stayed in several homes over the years and this is number one on our list. hope we can come back and stay longer. thank you, thank you, thank you for caring so much about making your home and our stay perfect. dean and shari degraffenreid
This log home on the banks of the Kootenai River was just what we were seeking for our NW Montana vacation. Eric and Deborah certainly put a lot of thought and effort into anticipating our needs for an enjoyable stay. The home is beautiful, comfortable, clean and well supplied. There are endless opportunities for recreation in the surrounding area, so another vacation there is planned! We really enjoyed morning and evening walks and all the wonderful wildlife. Deer, turkey, bighorn sheep, rabbits, bald eagles, ducks, bald eagles and golden eagles abound. It’s a great place to take in the Montana magic!
We loved our time at this sweet VRBO. This host has truly thought of everything and all you must do is come and relax. We had a ball here watching the bighorn, deer, rabbits and turkey. The property is located in the most perfect river setting. The host was very responsive and helpful. We rent a lot of vrbos a year and this one was top notch and blew us away with the organization and thought to detail. My crew went fly fishing, did the falls and suspension bridge, went to the splash pad in town and checked out the dam. It was a great escape from our very high paced life back in Texas. Can't wait to come back.
The property was very well appointed. The owner went above expectations with prompt and very helpful communication. We especially enjoyed the suggestions of what to do in the area.
The use it, leave it, deplete it replace it directive was so appreciated. After traveling a long distance it was an easy transition to making this home “ our home” without having to immediately go to the grocery store.
The local wild life was awesome to see. Unfortunately in bear country there were no bear sightings. Perhaps a good thing!
Thanks a bunch!

The touches were amazing. I can safely say I’ve never stayed at a vacation property that offers this level of amenities. Everything is clearly labeled and easy to find. Serving plates, plates, saucers, pans, trays, simply everything you can think of. Seasonings and spices. Need a telescope? There is one in the closet. Need a hiking backpack? Closet! Wanna take a bath? It’s like being in a store. An entire display shelf, sorry two entire shelves, of product to use. Want to send a post card? They had one in the wall pre-stamped. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your lovely home. I can tell you love it by the level of care you put into the property. Thank you for sharing it with us!
I was in Libby for the week for work and we had a hotel booked for myself, finance, and work associate. We checked into our hotel which is the "best hotel in Libby" after visiting our rooms we walked directly out. We didn't spend 5 minutes in that dark, old place. I then frantically looked at vrbo for ANYTHING remotely close to Libby in the parking lot of the hotel. I couldn't spend a work week in that hotel. Then I found this cabin right on the river and prayed it was available, and it was! I booked the week straight and Eric was quick to respond to my Libby SOS lol! They got the place ready for us and they let us check in early which was HUGE as we had lots of online work to do etc. Upon arriving we were greeted by big horned sheep on the dead end river road, which was awesome! I was greeted by Deborah who owns the cabin with her husband Eric. She was working hard to get everything perfect for us, we were the first visitors they rented too, which was a pleasant surprise. This cabin is not only spotless but beautiful, something you see in the movies. She gave me a quick tour and we all sighed with relief after seeing the perfect Montana cabin . Our trip to Montana was saved by this cabin, no joke. If we had to stay at the hotel it would have been miserable. The cabin was so organized and they have every accommodation you can ask for, from toothpicks to pasta, this place had it all. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone. The cabin is right on the river which was great to sit by with coffee, and it's great fishing as well. I am so grateful for this cabin beyond words, Thank you Eric and Deborah for the opportunity!
Deborah and Eric are fantastic hosts. They are highly communicative, very organized and do an excellent job of minding the details. The house and property are immaculate and the location is outstanding. No doubt, a 5 out of 5.
My family and I loved this peaceful cabin! It was very clean, organized, and comfortable. Not to mention the beautiful scenery! We would definitely recommend! Easy 5 stars.
If you want to stay in a beautiful log home right on the Kootenai River and close to Libby this home is for you. The home is immaculate and complete with everything you will need. The drive back and forth from Libby has tons of deer, big horn sheep and turkeys. Highly recommended!
Amazing family vacation destination! All the right elements for a wonderful stay. The perfect hosts with superb communication who offered helpful information about the surrounding area and options. Very attentive hosts who truly want you to have the most enjoyable stay as possible. The location is perfect for feeling removed but being close enough to amenities that it is not inconvenient to run into town for supplies. The home embodies all the rustic elements that one would desire in Montana with modern convenience of internet if desired. Beautiful river right out your back door that beckons and train across the way that was a fun surprise. Paved road on way in is perfect for biking as well as access at end of dead end road to hiking and biking trails. Wildlife abound and enjoyed visits from deer, turkeys and big horn sheep. You will not be disappointed! Didn't want to leave and can't wait to return!
The best house to call it home. High speed internet/WiFi to work remotely. Super comfortable oversized king bed. Deers, turkeys and bighorn sheep - you can find it sneaking around a house a whole day. Nice view of mountains and swift river. 2 hours from West Glacier by a good maintained road - a good choice to visit Glacier NP on weekends. I definitely would stay here again in the future. Thank you, Eric and Deborah, for this gem in Montana!
