Slovenia is full of remarkable places to visit. A few hours northeast of Ljubljana, the capital, lies a region of alpine valleys that will take your breath away. I took this photo shortly after sunrise on the ridge between two of those valleys.

Having your own set of wheels certainly makes getting around this area a lot easier. For accommodation I'd recommend Luce, a small town a stone's throw away from the action, where there are a few options.

The trails can be hard to locate and very slippery when covered with snow so tread carefully or, preferably, wait until it disappears.

"We drove down to Ljubljana from the UK in August 2024 while enroute to Croatia and opted to stay here for 2 days as it had free parking, wasn't far from the city centre and other attractions. Parking onsite can get competitive at times, but we would eventually find a space. There is an onsite bar and restaurant managed by a lovely gentleman who goes by the name of 'Jigga'.... yeah, like Jay-Z. He also manages the apartments so when we arrived at the property quite late on Day 1 he was kind...

Great hotel

"Staff were super friendly and helpful, the room we was in was really clean and the bedding gave me the best night's sleep I've had in a long time, couldn't recommend this place more, with a quick drive to the city and the breakfast was also really good, nice selection with coffee being freshly made. "
