Hôtel de la Plage

8/10 Good

"The Family Room we booked was spacious and clean. Beds were comfortable. Facilities in the room were pretty basic - a bath and a shower head, nowhere to fix the shower and no curtain. Just one all purpose body/hairwash. Curtains barely covered the window. The room was city facing and noisy at night: a pub just along the toad open til 2am. On the Saturday noise from Champions League victory celebrations and a party in the flat opposite. The window was soundproof but it was too hot and stuffy to sleep with it closed. No tea/coffee making facilities. All in all fine for a couple of nights and I guess good value at the price. "

"The host was very pleasant and extremely helpful. The room was lovely and clean. The walk-in shower was a pleasure. The continental breakfast looked fresh, well displayed and the coffee was really good. The host was very attentive and replenished regularly. Every morning, the room was tidied, beds made up and bins emptied which was a pleasant surprise. We had a family room which was actually two adjoining bedrooms with separate front doors. Very spacious with two TVs. All windows have security shutters so windows could be left open as it was extremely hot. The grounds around are very well kept and there is plenty of parking. It would have been nice to have coffee/ tea facilities in the room as only soft drinks were available outside of breakfast time annd there are no places very close to get a hot drink unless you order in."

"The facilities were excellent. The pool, bar and restaurant were very good. The spa staff could have been more helpful but the rest of the staff were excellent. Some areas could have benefited from more attention such as the balcony floor and bathroom floor. Espresso coffee machine in the room, broke but there were so many other places to get coffee, this was not an issue. Food was excellent."

"A nice room with welcome air conditioning and a comfortable bed, but overall the experience was disappointing given the expectations of the price point and Mercure brand: only paper cups provided in lieu of glasses; dreadful coffee in the room with only powdered milk that was well past its due date; and paying extra for a sea view is not worth the money as all one can see is a derelict outdoor swimming pool. Bike parking was fine."

"The location is situated within very easy reach to and from the port. It's easy to find and there is a car park. Staff speak some English for those who struggle with French. Breakfast is excellent and theyceven offer gluten free bread. The rooms are clean and there is tea and coffee making facilities in the bedroom. Sweets too...a nice touch."

"The room was ideal for our one night stay over and we loved the view from the large window. We was disappointed that when having pre dinner drinks, despite the restaurant being empty, we was told to move from the outside seating area to inside by the bar unless we was eating. We explained that we was unsure if we was eating at the hotel as was waiting for the menu. We was still told that we had to move with no menu being provided. After already waiting for 10 minutes despite four staff being in the area to be served a drink this made us decide to not eat there. We had toured various places in France over the previous 7 nights and had not experienced anything other than excellent and friendly staff and so was shocked by the staff in this hotel."

"Lovely hotel great facilities. Breakfast good selection . Dinner a disaster. I am Gluten free and told hotel in advance. Menu had no indication of dishes free from Gluten. Discussed with waiter and finally order Beefsteak with Haricot Vert beans and Pepper sauce. Nothing else suitable. Meal was terrible. Beans were out of a tin, cold and tasteless. Sauce turned out to be olive oil!. Beef was no cut I have ever experienced. Unrecognisable! It was tough, very course grained and didn't taste good. Replaced olive oil with pepper sauce which was white and devoid of any pepper!! I struggled through 10% of plate then left 90% of meal for waiter to take away. At checkout discussed my dissatisfaction and expected some gesture of compensation. Was offered a single drink at the bar. AN INSULT to a guest for a 26Euro dish. A bad experience which is a pity as I like the hotel chain."
