The owner is a lovely chap and the hotel is excellent for a small family run business. At the moment there is building work ongoing but this didn't affect our stay in any way.

Very interesting situation. We never actually stayed at this specific property. Upon our arrival, a note was posted on the front door, instructing us to go across the street to a neighboring hotel. We ended up staying at the Dom Pedro Hotel Madeira. It is a very nice property, lots of open space, b-fast included, and overlooks the ocean. Parking was limited. After checking out (noon) we looked across the street to see our original hotel (Residential Familia) in the daylight, and saw that it was completely under construction. Nobody mentioned this to us whatsoever, even though I had corresponded with them multiple times. However, it worked out just fine for us. We recommend booking Dom Pedro instead of Residential Familia Hotel - much nicer.

When I arrived a gentleman came from the restaurant attached next door to give me my key, but my name wasn’t on his printed list. After a long phone with somebody else call he gave me key and I was able to get to a room. He was very friendly and invited me over for dinner. The room was very basic but clean, exactly what I needed. The location was pretty good, but make sure you book a taxi ahead of time if you have an early flight!

Great stay close to the airport.

We stayed here as we had an early flight in the morning and it was perfect. 5 mins in a taxi to the airport, clean room and comfy bed. There were a few people knocking doors during the night, coming and going I assume but overall a wonderful stay, thank you.

Machico Magic

Our stay was very pleasant. the hotel had nice views of the harbor and town. This was an anniversary trip and the location was close to the airport, but not too close and also close to many of the best hiking trails in the area.
